Box office hits \u201cBarbie\u201d and \u201cOppenheimer\u201d landed four nominations each for Hollywood\u2019s Screen Actors Guild awards on Wednesday, setting up a new battle between the blockbuster films ahead of the Academy Awards.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The movies that squared off in a showdown dubbed \u201cBarbenheimer\u201d last summer will vie for the top SAG award \u2013 best movie cast \u2013 alongside \u201cThe Color Purple,\u201d \u201cKillers of the Flower Moon\u201d and \u201cAmerican Fiction.\u201d<\/p>\n

The SAG awards are closely watched because actors form the largest group of voters for the Oscars, the film industry\u2019s top prizes that will be bestowed in March.<\/p>\n

\u201cOppenheimer,\u201d about the making of the atomic bomb, is coming off a dominating night this week at the Golden Globes, where the Christopher Nolan film took home five trophies, including best movie drama.<\/p>\n

\u201cPoor Things,\u201d the surprise Globe winner for best movie musical or comedy, was left out of SAG\u2019s cast nominees, though star Emma Stone was nominated for best actress and Willem Dafoe for supporting actor.<\/p>\n

Stone will compete against \u201cBarbie\u201d star Margot Robbie, Golden Globe winner Lily Gladstone of \u201cKillers of the Flower Moon,\u201d Annette Bening of \u201cNyad\u201d and Carey Mulligan of \u201cMaestro.\u201d<\/p>\n

Cillian Murphy, who played scientist J. Robert Oppenheimer, was nominated for best actor. His competition will be Bradley Cooper of \u201cMaestro,\u201d \u201cThe Holdovers\u201d star Paul Giamatti, Jeffrey Wright for \u201cAmerican Fiction\u201d and Colman Domingo for \u201cRustin.\u201d<\/p>\n

SAG voters passed over \u201cFlower Moon\u201d star Leonardo DiCaprio.<\/p>\n

For \u201cOppenheimer,\u201d Robert Downey Jr. and Emily Blunt were nominated for their supporting roles. The other nods for \u201cBarbie\u201d came for supporting actor Ryan Gosling, who played Ken, and for the movie\u2019s stunt performers.<\/p>\n

\u201cSuccession,\u201d about a cutthroat media mogul and his family, led TV categories with five nominations, including best drama series cast. \u201cTed Lasso,\u201d \u201cThe Bear\u201d and \u201cThe Last of Us\u201d each received four nods.<\/p>\n

For its final season, \u201cSuccession\u201d won the Golden Globe for best TV drama, while season two of restaurant dramedy \u201cThe Bear\u201d prevailed in the TV comedy series category.<\/p>\n

Winners of the SAG awards will be handed out at a red-carpet ceremony held in Los Angeles on Feb. 24 and streamed live on Netflix (NFLX.O).<\/p>\n

At the event, SAG will award a lifetime achievement honor to singer, actor and director Barbra Streisand, the star of \u201cFunny Girl,\u201d \u201cA Star is Born\u201d and other classic films.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
