{"id":46265,"date":"2024-01-10T18:53:04","date_gmt":"2024-01-10T18:53:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/news.pakistaninewspaperlist.com\/onion-prices-surge-to-rs240-per-kg-on-massive-exports\/"},"modified":"2024-01-10T18:53:04","modified_gmt":"2024-01-10T18:53:04","slug":"onion-prices-surge-to-rs240-per-kg-on-massive-exports","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pakistaninewspaperlist.com\/news\/onion-prices-surge-to-rs240-per-kg-on-massive-exports\/","title":{"rendered":"Onion prices surge to Rs240 per kg on massive exports"},"content":{"rendered":"<div data-td-block-uid=\"tdi_86\">\n<div class=\"tdb-block-inner td-fix-index\">\n<p><strong>KARACHI: Good quality onion prices have swelled to Rs240 per kg in the domestic markets as retailers blame massive exports for the price spiral, ARY News reported on Wednesday. \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The already inflation-hit consumers are forced to pay heavy prices for the most sought-after commodity compared to other vegetables.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking at ARY News programme <em>\u2018Ba Khabar Sawera\u2019<\/em>, Wholesale Vegetable Association President Sheikh Muhammad Shah Jahan linked the rise in onion prices to Indian ban on onion exports.<\/p>\n<p>India \u2013 the world\u2019s biggest exporter of onions \u2013 had banned shipments from Dec 8, 2023 till March 2024 after domestic prices more than doubled in three months following a drop in production.<\/p>\n<p><div class=\"ast-oembed-container \" style=\"height: 100%;\"><iframe title=\"Inflation spikes in Pakistan\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/84mPkXpCkoA?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/p>\n<p>Following India\u2019s move, Pakistani exporters started cashing in on the situation with local rates suddenly crawling up to Rs160-180 from Rs120-140 on intense buying.
