{"id":45985,"date":"2024-01-10T02:28:05","date_gmt":"2024-01-10T02:28:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/news.pakistaninewspaperlist.com\/imprisoned-pti-boss-arrested-in-more-cases\/"},"modified":"2024-01-10T02:28:05","modified_gmt":"2024-01-10T02:28:05","slug":"imprisoned-pti-boss-arrested-in-more-cases","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pakistaninewspaperlist.com\/news\/imprisoned-pti-boss-arrested-in-more-cases\/","title":{"rendered":"Imprisoned PTI boss \u2018arrested\u2019 in more cases"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\n<p>\u2022 Rawalpindi police arrest Imran over GHQ attack, sent on two-day remand in May 9 cases<br \/>\u2022 Accountability court dismisses his bail in Toshakhana, Al-Qadir Trust cases<br \/>\u2022 Former PM says he is being punished for \u2018reining in powerful quarters\u2019<\/p>\n<p>ISLAMABAD: Former prime minister Imran Khan was arrested by Ra\u00adw\u00ada\u00adlpindi police in at least a dozen cases pertaining to the May 9 violence, including the attack on the Gene\u00adral Headqua\u00adrters (GHQ), as an accountability court in Islamabad <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1804387\/imran-bushra-bibi-indicted-in-toshakhana-reference\">ind\u00adicted<\/a> him and former first lady Bus\u00adhra Bibi in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1804198\/supreme-court-nullifies-lifetime-disqualification-for-lawmakers\">Toshakhana<\/a> reference on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>As per the charge sheet, the former PTI chairman retained 58 out of 108 gifts received from different heads of states during his tenure as the premier. The court charged Mr Khan with securing these gifts at \u2018throwaway\u2019 prices.<\/p>\n<p>The judge adjourned further proceeding till Jan 11 in the Toshakhana reference and summoned 12 witnesses on the same date. It alleged that Bushra Bibi kept the exquisite and expensive jewellery set bypassing Toshakhana rules. The military secretary, however, had reported this gift in 2020.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"media  sm:w-1\/2  w-full  media--right  media--embed  media--uneven\">\n<p>    <iframe class=\"nk-iframe\" onload=\"setInterval(()=&gt;{try{this.style.height=this.contentWindow.document.body.scrollHeight+'px';}catch{}}, 100)\" width=\"100%\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" style=\"height:400px;position:relative\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/card\/1751782\" sandbox=\"allow-same-origin allow-scripts allow-popups allow-modals allow-forms\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>As per the list of the prosecution, two senior army officers, including the ex-military secretary to the former premier, will testify in this case, whereas private appraiser Sohaib Abbasi has also become an approver against Mr Khan.<\/p>\n<p>Witnesses named by the prosecution included Mr Khan\u2019s ex-military secretary Brig Muhammad Ahmed, Deputy Military Secretary Colonel Rehan Mehmood, Toshakhana section officers Benaymin, Nida Rehman, NAB Addi\u00adti\u00adonal Director Qaiser Mehmood, State Bank of Pakistan Joint Director Sajid Khan, Assistant Secretary Protocol Zahid Sarfraz Azam, Principal Appraiser Azeem Man\u00adzoor, Appraiser Rabia Samad, Deputy Consulate General at Dubai Rahi\u00admullah, Counselor Att\u00adache Irfan Rafaqat, Moh\u00adsin Habib Admin Assistant at the Dubai Consulate, former private secretary Syed Inamullah Shah, Magistrate Mohammad Abdullah, NAB officials Mohsin Haroon, Mustansar Imam Shah, and Hasnain Mustafa.<\/p>\n<p>Talking to the media at Adiala Jail, Mr Khan said that he was being victimised for \u201creining in the powerful quarters\u201d. He said that the witnesses against him included an office boy. In response to a question about PTI\u2019s support for Sheikh Rashid, Mr Khan said that the party would make a decision soon.<\/p>\n<p>On the other hand, the Rawalpindi Police arre\u00adsted Imran Khan in connection with the May 9 protests. The anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Rawal\u00adpindi granted a two-day phy\u00adsical remand of Mr Khan and directed the pol\u00adice to investigate him at Adiala Jail.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Dismissal of bail plea<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Accountability judge Mohammad Bashir on Tuesday dismissed the petitions of Mr Khan seeking post-arrest bail in the Toshakhana reference and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1794256\">Al-Qadir Trust case<\/a> involving 190 million pounds. Likewise, the court adjourned proceedings in 190m pounds corruption case till Jan 17. Mr Khan and Bushra Bibi are likely to be indicted in this case on the said date.<\/p>\n<p>In a related development, the written order of the same court regarding the attachment of the properties of property tycoon Malik Riaz, his son Ahmed Ali Riaz and other accused has been issued.<\/p>\n<p>As per the court order, Malik Riaz\u2019s six properties in Revenue Estate Kotha Kalan and Bimia Kanet in Rawalpindi and 11 bank accounts in Rawalpindi and Islamabad were attached.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u2018Imran authored article\u2019<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the PTI has issued a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1804477\/article-published-in-the-economist-authored-by-imran-not-compiled-using-ai-pti\">clarification<\/a> regarding coverage of Mr Khan\u2019s media talk regarding an essay published in <em>The Economist<\/em>. The spokesman stated that \u201cthe said piece has been authored by the PTI chairman-for-life\u201d and \u201cin no way, this has been compiled through the use of artificial means including artificial
