{"id":45661,"date":"2024-01-09T08:03:05","date_gmt":"2024-01-09T08:03:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/news.pakistaninewspaperlist.com\/usman-dars-brother-in-sialkot-police-custody-lhc-told\/"},"modified":"2024-01-09T08:03:05","modified_gmt":"2024-01-09T08:03:05","slug":"usman-dars-brother-in-sialkot-police-custody-lhc-told","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pakistaninewspaperlist.com\/news\/usman-dars-brother-in-sialkot-police-custody-lhc-told\/","title":{"rendered":"Usman Dar\u2019s brother in Sialkot police custody, LHC told"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\n<p>The Punjab government told the Lahore High Court (LHC) on Tuesday that Umar Dar, the brother of former PTI leader Usman Dar, was currently in the custody of Sialkot police.<\/p>\n<p>The development came as the court took up a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1801991\">petition<\/a> filed by Usman against the alleged illegal detention of his brother by law enforcement agencies.<\/p>\n<p>On Dec 30, the PTI had <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1801869\">claimed<\/a> that Umar had been abducted in Lahore. Subsequently, the LHC had <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1801991\">directed<\/a> police to recover him within 24 hours. Last week, the LHC <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1802442\">rejected<\/a> as dissatisfactory a report by the Punjab police denying the arrest or custody of Umar.<\/p>\n<p>The next day, it <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1802719\/igp-asked-to-file-fresh-report-on-umar-dars-kidnap\">directed<\/a> Punjab Inspector General Dr Usman Anwar to file a fresh report in light of CCTV footage of the alleged abduction.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"media  sm:w-1\/2  w-full  media--right  media--embed  media--uneven\">\n<p>    <iframe class=\"nk-iframe\" onload=\"setInterval(()=&gt;{try{this.style.height=this.contentWindow.document.body.scrollHeight+'px';}catch{}}, 100)\" width=\"100%\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" style=\"height:400px;position:relative\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/card\/1799215\" sandbox=\"allow-same-origin allow-scripts allow-popups allow-modals allow-forms\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>It should be noted that in December, the Dar brothers\u2019 mother Rehana had accused PML-N stalwart Khawaja Asif and the police of raiding their Sialkot home and manhandling her. Asif and Sialkot police had denied the claim.<\/p>\n<p>Justice Ali Baqar Najafi presided over today\u2019s hearing, which was attended by Rehana and Umar\u2019s daughter.<\/p>\n<p>Punjab Additional Advocate General Ghulam Sarwar Nihan appeared as the provincial government\u2019s lawyer while Abuzar Salman Niazi was Umar\u2019s counsel.<\/p>\n<p>During the hearing, Nihan told the court, \u201cUmar Dar is in police custody.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe was arrested on January 8 from Gujrat,\u201d the counsel claimed, adding that he was in Sialkot police custody at the Cantt police station.<\/p>\n<p>The provincial counsel further said Umar had been nominated in two first information reports, which Niazi told <em>Dawn.com<\/em> were related to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1751955\">violent riots<\/a> of May 9 that followed ex-premier <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1751782\">Imran Khan\u2019s arrest<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><figure class=\"media  sm:w-1\/2  w-full  media--right  \"><figcaption class=\"media__caption  \">Rehana Dar speaks at LHC on Jan 9. \u2014 Photo via author<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p>\n<p>The lawyer said the Punjab police arrested Naizi and then transferred his custody to the Sialkot investigation police.<\/p>\n<p>On the occasion, Umar\u2019s mother thanked Justice Najafi, saying he had made a \u201cjust decision\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Following the hearing, Niazi said his client had been \u201clocated\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>In a post on social media platform X, he said, \u201cFinally Punjab police has admitted before LHC Justice Baqar Najfi that Umar Dar is in custody of Sialkot police related to first information report in Cantt Police Station, Sialkot.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNow his remand will be contested and post-arrest bail will be filed,\u201d the lawyer added.<\/p>\n<h2><a id=\"usman-dars-mother-allowed-to-contest-polls\" href=\"#usman-dars-mother-allowed-to-contest-polls\" class=\"heading-permalink\" aria-hidden=\"true\" title=\"Permalink\"\/>Usman Dar\u2019s mother allowed to contest polls<\/h2>\n<p>Separately, the LHC\u2019s election appellate tribunal accepted Rehana\u2019s appeal against the rejection of her nomination papers from NA-71 (Sialkot-II) constituency.<\/p>\n<p>In a post on X, Niazi confirmed that she was now allowed to contest the upcoming Feb 8 general elections.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Punjab government told the Lahore High Court (LHC) on Tuesday that Umar Dar, the brother of former PTI leader Usman Dar, was currently in the custody of Sialkot police.
