A police truck transporting at least 25 policemen for anti-polio campaign duties was targeted by an IED blast<\/a>. Result of which, 5 police officials were martyred and 27 people were injured.<\/p>\n

It is to be noted that, the incident took place in the Mamund tehsil of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa\u2019s Bajaur district. The details about the following has been confirmed by the District Police Officer (DPO) Kashif Zulfiqar.<\/p>\n

While sharing the details about this, a senior government official in Bajaur district, Anwarul Haq said that, \u201cA police truck transporting around 25 policemen for anti-polio campaign duties was targeted<\/a> by an IED (improvised explosive devices).\u201d<\/p>\n

The medical superintendent at the Khar District Headquarters Hospital (DHQ), Dr Wazir Khan Safi, said that, \u201c12 of the wounded were being treated at the hospital while 10 others seriously injured had been referred to a Peshawar medical facility.\u201d<\/p>\n

Malakand Division Commissioner, Saqib Raza, said that, \u201cthe polio campaign in the area had been suspended because of the blast.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to a Rescue 1122 statement, rescue teams in Mohmand and Lower Dir districts were also put on alert.<\/p>\n

The outlawed Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) claimed responsibility for the attack.<\/p>\n

At the same time, the Caretaker Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Justice (retd) Arshad Hussain Shah, condemned the blast and expressed his grief over the \u2018martyrdom of the police officials.\u2019<\/p>\n

CM Shah also made directions to the district administration and officials to ensure the provision of the timely aid to those wounded in the IED blast attack.<\/p>\n

He added that, \u201cThe police morale would not be defeated by such cowardly incidents.\u201d<\/p>\n

Along with this, he also promised to provide \u2018every possible support\u2019 to the bereaved families.<\/p>\n

At the same time, the National Assembly Speaker, Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, also expressed his condolences on the loss of lives. He took it to his official social media handle to extend that, \u201cTerrorists cannot shake the morale of the security forces with these cowardly acts. The entire nation stands by the side of the security forces in the war against terrorism.\u201d<\/p>\n
