{"id":41692,"date":"2023-12-30T09:56:05","date_gmt":"2023-12-30T09:56:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/news.pakistaninewspaperlist.com\/nawaz-to-leave-country-before-elections-claims-aitzaz-ahsan\/"},"modified":"2023-12-30T09:56:05","modified_gmt":"2023-12-30T09:56:05","slug":"nawaz-to-leave-country-before-elections-claims-aitzaz-ahsan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pakistaninewspaperlist.com\/news\/nawaz-to-leave-country-before-elections-claims-aitzaz-ahsan\/","title":{"rendered":"Nawaz to leave country before elections, claims Aitzaz Ahsan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\n<p>Veteran politician and senior lawyer Aitzaz Ahsan has predicted that PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif would leave the country before elections and watch the results unfold from there.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe lives abroad anyway,\u201d said Ahsan in an interview on <em>DawnNewsTV<\/em> programme \u201cDoosra Rukh\u201d on Friday night.<\/p>\n<p>In the interview, the PPP stalwart also claimed that JUI-F leader Maulana Fazlur Rehman was \u201cretreating [from elections]\u201d, claiming that from the two drums that are beaten \u2014 either of victory or retreat \u2014 Rehman seemed to be \u201cbeating the drum of a retreat\u201d.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"media  w-full  w-full  media--stretch  media--embed  \">\n<p><div class=\"ast-oembed-container \" style=\"height: 100%;\"><iframe title=\"Aitzaz Ahsan Exposes Big Secrets in Talk Show with Nadir Guramani | Doosra Rukh\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/LutOC6ncLiY?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Previously, the lawyer had also called Sharif a \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1796478\"><em>ladla<\/em><\/a>\u201d(favoured) and had <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1796478\">claimed<\/a> that the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and the caretaker government were trying to ensure Nawaz Sharif wins a two-thirds majority in next year\u2019s general elections.<\/p>\n<p>Nawaz, who had <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1782567\">returned to Pakistan on October 21<\/a> after spending four years in self-imposed exile, said he had \u201cno wish for revenge\u201d and stressed on beginning a \u201cnew journey\u201d towards growth.<\/p>\n<h2><a id=\"bat-symbol\" href=\"#bat-symbol\" class=\"heading-permalink\" aria-hidden=\"true\" title=\"Permalink\"\/>\u2018Bat symbol\u2019<\/h2>\n<p>As far as the PTI\u2019s on-going tussle with the election commission goes, Ahsan said it would be unwise for the election watchdog to pursue this matter any further.<\/p>\n<p>The ECP and the PTI have been exchanging blows over the past few days. The controversy stems from the electoral watchdog\u2019s earlier decision to strip PTI of its symbol following the annulment of its intra-party elections for not complying with the Elections Act and the party\u2019s own constitution.<\/p>\n<p>PTI\u2019s new chairman, Gohar Khan, had also claimed there was a conspiracy brewing against the party to snatch its electoral symbol \u2018bat\u2019 and exclude it from the upcoming elections.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIs the election commission conducting elections or contesting them?\u201d Ahsan asked, adding that the  Ccommission cannot \u2014 and should not \u2014 go to high court regarding the bat symbol against PTI as it will show its bias against the party.<\/p>\n<p>The lawyer was referring to the ECP\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1801792\/ecp-to-challenge-high-court-verdict-on-pti-election-symbol\">decision to challenge<\/a> the Peshawar High Court\u2019s (PHC) order <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1800848\">reinstating the PTI\u2019s election symbol<\/a>. Sources familiar with the matter told <em>Dawn<\/em> the ECP initially considered appealing directly to the Supreme Court but ultimately opted for a review petition with the PHC, which is scheduled to revisit the case on Jan 9.
