The military\u2019s top brass has vowed to provide all \u201crequisite and necessary support\u201d required to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) for the upcoming February 8 general elections, the military\u2019s media wing stated on Thursday.<\/p>\n
The ECP had issued the election schedule<\/a> on December 15 and the election programme is fully under way with the deadline for filing nomination papers over on Sunday<\/a>. The returning officers will examine the nomination papers from Dec 25 to Dec 30.<\/p>\n A press release from the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) issued today said the army affirmation was made in the 261st Corps Commanders\u2019 Conference held at the General Headquarters in Rawalpindi.<\/p>\n The high-level moot took a \u201cholistic review\u201d of the government\u2019s ongoing actions<\/a> against smuggling, money laundering, power theft and hoarding of essential items amongst other illegal economic activities.<\/p>\n \u201cPakistan Army will continue to provide all-out support to relevant government institutions and LEAs (law enforcement agencies) to curb such crimes,\u201d the ISPR said.<\/p>\n It added that the forum was briefed on the operational preparedness of formations and Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir (COAS) stressed the need for \u201ccontinuously maintaining operational excellence in cognitive and physical realms and pursuit of high standards of motivation and training\u201d.<\/p>\n The meeting\u2019s participants further reiterated their support for the government\u2019s ongoing efforts to promote socioeconomic growth and encourage foreign investment under the umbrella of the Special Investment Facilitation Council.<\/p>\n The forum also expressed full solidarity with Palestinians and condemned the \u201cserious human rights violations and war crimes\u201d being perpetrated in the Gaza Strip by the Israeli military after the October 7 surprise Hamas attack.<\/p>\n The military moot reiterated the government\u2019s stance of demanding an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and a peaceful resolution to the ongoing crisis.<\/p>\n Separately, the forum addressed the issue of rising terrorism in the country and resolved that \u201call terrorists, their facilitators and abettors, working on the behest of hostile forces to destablise Pakistan will be dealt with full might of the state.\u201d<\/p>\n The army moot also reiterated the military\u2019s resolve to \u201cdefend the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Pakistan against direct and indirect threats\u201d.<\/p>\n The ISPR said the participants were briefed on the prevalent geo-strategic environment, the challenges to national security and the army\u2019s strategy in response to the evolving threat.<\/p>\n Terrorists to be dealt with \u2018full might of state\u2019<\/h2>\n
