{"id":3947,"date":"2023-09-14T08:12:10","date_gmt":"2023-09-14T08:12:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/news.pakistaninewspaperlist.com\/ppp-issues-show-cause-notice-to-lawyer-latif-khosa-for-working-against-party-policy\/"},"modified":"2023-09-14T08:12:10","modified_gmt":"2023-09-14T08:12:10","slug":"ppp-issues-show-cause-notice-to-lawyer-latif-khosa-for-working-against-party-policy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pakistaninewspaperlist.com\/news\/ppp-issues-show-cause-notice-to-lawyer-latif-khosa-for-working-against-party-policy\/","title":{"rendered":"PPP issues show-cause notice to lawyer Latif Khosa for \u2018working against party policy\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\n<p>The PPP on Thursday issued a show-cause notice to disgruntled party leader and lawyer Sardar Latif Khosa, asking him to explain why disciplinary action should not be initiated against him for \u201cworking against the party policy\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The letter, a copy of which is available with <em>Dawn.com<\/em>, was signed by PPP Secretary General Nayyar Hussain Bukhari.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou, being a member of the central executive committee, are defending\/pleading\/representing a head of another political party without prior approval of the leadership in corruption cases in which he has been convicted, and in a case against him under the Official Secrets Act,\u201d it said.<\/p>\n<p>The letter said that Khosa had also criticised state policy regarding the \u201ccipher\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Although the letter did not mention anyone by name, it was a clear reference to PTI Chairman Imran Khan \u2014 who was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1768528\">arrested<\/a> last month in the Toshakhana case. Khosa has been representing the PTI chief in several cases registered against him.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"media  sm:w-1\/2  w-full  media--right  media--embed  media--uneven\">\n<p>    <iframe class=\"nk-iframe\" onload=\"setInterval(()=&gt;{try{this.style.height=this.contentWindow.document.body.scrollHeight+'px';}catch{}}, 100)\" width=\"100%\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" style=\"height:400px;position:relative\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/card\/1772133\" sandbox=\"allow-same-origin allow-scripts allow-popups allow-modals allow-forms\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>The ex-premier is also facing a case under the Official Secrets Act which pertains to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1769320\/leaked-cipher-hints-at-us-pressure-over-russia-visit\">diplomatic document<\/a> which reportedly went missing from Imran\u2019s possession. The PTI alleges that it contained a threat from the United States to oust Imran from power.<\/p>\n<p>The letter issued to Khosa by the PPP asked him to explain why disciplinary action should not be taken against him for \u201cworking against the party policy\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>It called on him to submit a reply within seven days, adding that failure to do so would result in disciplinary action against him by \u201cwithdrawing your membership of PPP\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The letter comes the same day the PPP is expected to hold a meeting of its Central Executive Committee (CEC) meeting in Lahore, for which it had <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1775584\">invited all disgruntled party leaders<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Two of the party\u2019s central leaders \u2014 Khosa and Aitzaz Ahsan \u2014 have been at odds with the party leadership over their proximity and support to Imran during his legal troubles.<\/p>\n<p>Both leaders were also invited to the previous CEC meeting as well. While Ahsan had attended that sitting, Khosa had chose to stay away.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier, Khosa was also served a show cause notice for giving a statement in favour of the incarcerated PTI chairman, but the PPP leaders told <em>Dawn<\/em> the veteran lawyer was still a CEC member.<\/p>\n<p>Although he has been invited, it is unlikely that Khosa will attend the meeting. \u201cWe have received an invitation but will not attend the meeting as we will be busy in court cases,\u201d Khosa\u2019s son Khurram Khosa, who is also a lawyer, told <em>Dawn<\/em> earlier this week.<\/p>\n<p>It was unclear whether Ahsan would attend the meeting or not although he did attend the party\u2019s previous CEC meeting held on August 25.<\/p>\n<p>According to a PPP leader, Ahsan wanted to take part in the last meeting through a video link but the party\u2019s chair\u00adman, Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, insisted he join in person.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The PPP on Thursday issued a show-cause notice to disgruntled party leader and lawyer Sardar Latif Khosa, asking him to explain why disciplinary action should not be initiated against him for \u201cworking against the party policy\u201d.
