Australia\u2019s Usman Khawaja has been denied permission to place a peace symbol on his bat and shoes for the Boxing Day Test against Pakistan, reports said on Sunday.<\/p>\n

The star batter had multiple<\/a> meetings with Cricket Australia over recent days to find a message that would be appropriate for the second Test this week, local media said.<\/p>\n But his latest humanitarian gesture has been turned down by the International Cricket Committee, The Australian and Melbourne Age newspapers reported.<\/p>\n The ICC were not immediately available for comment.<\/p>\n Khawaja, a Muslim, was stopped from wearing shoes emblazoned with the hand-written slogans \u201cFreedom is a human right\u201d and \u201cAll lives are equal\u201d during the first Test in Perth.<\/p>\n The 36-year-old had wanted to show his support for the people of Gaza.<\/p>\n But he was told they flouted ICC rules on messages that relate to politics, religion or race.<\/p>\n He wore a black armband<\/a> during the match and was reprimanded by the ICC, but insisted afterwards it was for a \u201cpersonal bereavement\u201d and vowed to contest<\/a> the ruling.<\/p>\n Khawaja spoke on Friday about how Israel\u2019s bombardment of Gaza had affected him, saying he despaired at seeing how many children had been killed.<\/p>\n \u201cWhen I\u2019m looking at my Instagram and seeing innocent kids, videos of them dying, passing away, that\u2019s what hit me the hardest,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n \u201cI don\u2019t have any agendas other than trying to shine a light on what I feel really passionately, really strongly about. \u201c<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Australia\u2019s Usman Khawaja has been denied permission to place a peace symbol on his bat and shoes for the Boxing Day Test against Pakistan, reports said on Sunday.
