{"id":39152,"date":"2023-12-24T02:45:05","date_gmt":"2023-12-24T02:45:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/news.pakistaninewspaperlist.com\/pml-n-takes-aim-at-sc-for-granting-bail-to-imran\/"},"modified":"2023-12-24T02:45:05","modified_gmt":"2023-12-24T02:45:05","slug":"pml-n-takes-aim-at-sc-for-granting-bail-to-imran","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pakistaninewspaperlist.com\/news\/pml-n-takes-aim-at-sc-for-granting-bail-to-imran\/","title":{"rendered":"PML-N takes aim at SC for granting bail to Imran"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\n<p>LAHORE: The PML-N, which recently was showering praise on the judiciary for providing \u2018expeditious justice\u2019 to its convicted supreme leader Nawaz Sharif in corruption cases, on Saturday turned its guns on the apex court for providing \u201ccertificate of innocence\u201d to PTI founder Imran Khan in the cipher case.<\/p>\n<p>On Friday, the Supreme Court granted <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1799939\/sc-approves-imran-qureshis-bail-in-cipher-case\">post-arrest bail<\/a> to PTI leaders Imran Khan and Shah Mehmood Qureshi in the cipher case.<\/p>\n<p>Reacting strongly to the SC decision at separate pre\u00adss conferences, PML-N\u2019s central information sec\u00adretary Marriyum Aura\u00adngzeb, Malik Ahmad Khan and former minister Moh\u00adsin Shahnawaz Ranjah taunted that \u201cImran is now being portrayed as innocent\u201d.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"media  sm:w-1\/2  w-full  media--right  media--embed  media--uneven\">\n<p>    <iframe class=\"nk-iframe\" onload=\"setInterval(()=&gt;{try{this.style.height=this.contentWindow.document.body.scrollHeight+'px';}catch{}}, 100)\" width=\"100%\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" style=\"height:400px;position:relative\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/card\/1797454\" sandbox=\"allow-same-origin allow-scripts allow-popups allow-modals allow-forms\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Since his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1782567\">arrival from London<\/a> on Oct 21 after a four-year self-imposed exile, Nawaz Sharif has been given VVIP protocol from the caretaker governments at the Centre and in Punjab, while his convictions in Al-Azizia and Avenfield cases have been set aside by the Islamabad High Court after a few hearings.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Sharif praised the judiciary for giving him \u201cswift justice\u201d in what he called fake cases instituted as part of a conspiracy to oust him from power in 2017.<\/p>\n<p>Before assuming the charge of Chief Justice of Pakistan by Qazi Faez Isa in September, the PML-N leaders had been taking on the apex court judges for allegedly favouring Imran Khan in different cases.<\/p>\n<p>PML-N chief organiser Maryam Nawaz had even displayed the portrait of a couple of sitting SC judges making different allegations against them at a public rally. However, no contempt of case was initiated against her.<\/p>\n<p>On Saturday, the PML-N showed its intent to again target the judiciary in the wake of relief provided to its rival Imran Khan.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEfforts are afoot to impose Imran Khan again by presenting him innocent, but the people will not let it happen,\u201d Ms Auranzeb said, wondering how the culprits of May 9 events could be innocent.<\/p>\n<p>She also asked why Mr Khan could not appear before courts in the cases like Al-Qadir Trust, while Nawaz Sharif happened to attend a number of court proceedings in \u201cfake cases\u201d. \u201cToday the country\u2019s criminal is being presented as innocent to save him, which is unfair,\u201d she decried and declared come what may, Nawaz Sharif would take part in the Feb 8 polls.<\/p>\n<p>Malik Ahmad Khan said that after the SC decision in the cipher case, it had become known who was \u2018favourite\u2019. \u201cWe respect the SC\u2019s decision but there are questions on changing the jurisdiction of the court, in this case,\u201d he said, warning that there would be repercussions of such decisions. \u201cThe judges\u2019 comments (during the hearing of Imran Khan\u2019s bail petition) may influence the proceedings of cipher case in the trial court,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The PML-N leader welcomed the Election Commission\u2019s decision to declare PTI\u2019s intra-party polls unconstitutional.<\/p>\n<p>Mohsin Ranjah said the act of awarding \u2018Sadiq (truthful) and Ameen (righteous)\u2019 certificate to a person (Imran Khan) had been going on for quite sometimes. \u201cThe judges are giving a certificate of innocent to a person who had been declared controversial.
