Legendary cricketer Waqar Younis shared his views on the performance of Pakistan\u2019s fast bowlers in the ongoing three-match Test series against host Australia.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

It is pertinent to mention here that Pakistan pacers Shaheen Shah Afridi, Khurram Shahzad, Aamer Jamal, and Faheem Ashraf put on disappointing performances as they found it troubling to clock high speeds.<\/span><\/p>\n

Waqar Younis opened up on the absence of genuine quick bowlers in the squad in a conversation with cricket website ESPNCricinfo. According to him, the side included medium-pacers or slow-medium-pacers along with all-rounders instead of express pace bowlers for the series.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cAnother thing that I\u2019m worried about is that always when we come to Australia, one thing that excites is the fast bowling and this time around I\u2019m not seeing that,\u201d he said as quoted by ESPNCricinfo. \u201cI\u2019m seeing medium-pacers or slow-medium-pacers, allrounders, there\u2019s no real pace. People used to come and watch Pakistan pace bowlers really running in hard and bowling 150 clicks [kph], and that\u2019s what I\u2019m not seeing there.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

He added: \u201cThat\u2019s my worry and issue because I have not seen it at the domestic level also. There are a few injured, I can understand, but in the past you would always see a battery of fast bowlers that they could always bring on, but unfortunately, that is not there and I\u2019m really worried about that.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

He said Shaheen Afridi should rest and work on his skills if he is having problems.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m not really sure what\u2019s wrong with him. If he\u2019s not fit, if he\u2019s got some issues, he needs to go away from the game and fix that because if you are going to carry on like that you are going to become a medium-pacer. He used to bowl 145-150kph and used to swing that ball. What I\u2019m seeing now, yes there\u2019s a little bit of swing but his pace is way down\u2026 and that is not going to get him wickets,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/p>\n

He said watching the series opener at Perth was painful as Pakistan failed to capitalize on the opportunities that could have changed the course of the match in their favour.<\/p>\n

\u201cWatching the first Test match was painful. We had moments, we had opportunities where we could have pulled the game back a bit but we didn\u2019t take the opportunities. When Pakistan come to Australia they have to make sure their fielding is spotless\u2026 because Australia batsmen, if you give them opportunities, they\u2019ll take it with both hands and make it big and that\u2019s what we saw in Perth,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
