The Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Dominica<\/a>, Dr Roosevelt Skerrit, during the Tuesday media address has mentioned about the ongoing progress on the International Airport Project.<\/p>\n

While mentioning about it, PM Skerrit, added that, \u201cThe work on the International Airport Project has advanced rapidly over the past months. Mobilization works advanced in earnest with the arrival of the shipment of the construction materials earlier this year.\u201d<\/p>\n

Skerrit, added that, since then the clearing of almost 500-acre site and the development of roads have been completed.<\/p>\n

He noted that, \u201cMobilization is about 99% advanced with the completion of accommodation, offices, workshops, storage facilities, utilities and the concrete mixing plant.\u201d<\/p>\n

Skerrit shared that the asphalt mixing plant and crusher are currently being worked on.<\/p>\n

Noting to which, he added that, \u201cWe are now making an entry into phase where one can start to see focus on runway development with the work starting on the primary runway which will be used for both takeoff and landing.\u201d<\/p>\n

Moreover, Skerrit said a key component of the platform development is the management of the water and waterways on the site. Considering which, he added that, \u201cTo this end, up to over five major culverts have been identified to ensure that this will be done safely.\u201d<\/p>\n

As per the statement of PM Skerrit<\/a>, \u201cThe main changes will be going to provide the increased capacity as well as flexibility of the apron parking, and changes were also made within the terminal to increase the capacity of the gate sitting area in the departure lounge for improving both the arriving and departing passenger experience.\u201d<\/p>\n

He further shared that the government of Dominica continues to meet with the major airlines and keeping them updated on the project development and the interim development at the Douglas-Charles Airport.<\/p>\n

It is to be added that, the international airport is among the major projects which will transform the Dominica\u2019s economy.<\/p>\n

At the same time, PM Skerrit also added that, people across the island will see continued progress on the Cable Car Project which is advancing in the Roseau Valley and the commencement of the Cabrits Marina in the Portsmouth.<\/p>\n
