{"id":38452,"date":"2023-12-22T09:47:06","date_gmt":"2023-12-22T09:47:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/news.pakistaninewspaperlist.com\/sc-grants-imran-qureshi-bail-in-cypher-case-the-express-tribune\/"},"modified":"2023-12-22T09:47:06","modified_gmt":"2023-12-22T09:47:06","slug":"sc-grants-imran-qureshi-bail-in-cypher-case-the-express-tribune","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pakistaninewspaperlist.com\/news\/sc-grants-imran-qureshi-bail-in-cypher-case-the-express-tribune\/","title":{"rendered":"SC grants Imran, Qureshi bail in cypher case | The Express Tribune"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"\">\n<strong class=\"location-names\"><br \/>\nISLAMABAD:<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Supreme Court (SC) granted bail\u00a0to former prime minister Imran Khan and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Shah Mahmood Qureshi on Friday in the cypher case.<\/p>\n<p>The bails have been granted against a surety bond of Rs100,000.<\/p>\n<p>A three-member bench of the SC comprising acting Chief Justice Sardar Tariq Masood, Justice Athar Minallah and Justice Mansoor Ali Shah.<\/p>\n<p>Imran Khan, the PTI\u2019s founder, had approached the apex court for a bail relief in the case after the Islamabad High Court (IHC) rejected his post arrest bail application on October 27.<\/p>\n<p>Last week, on December 13, a special court established under the Official Secrets Act <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/tribune.com.pk\/story\/2449900\/imran-qureshi-re-indicted-in-cypher-case\">once again indicted<\/a> former premier Imran Khan and ex-foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi in the cypher case \u2013 dealing a fresh blow to ex-PTI chairman\u2019s chances of contesting Pakistan&#8217;s general election in February.<\/p>\n<p>The charges were read aloud in the courtroom, situated at Adiala Jail, where both Imran and his co-accused, the former foreign minister, denied the charges.<\/p>\n<p>Judge Abul Hasnat Zulqarnain read out the two-page charge-sheet under the Official Secrets Act, outlining three distinct charges against the defendants.<\/p>\n<p>The court ruled that both Imran, in his capacity as prime minister, and Shah Mehmood Qureshi, as foreign minister, breached the Official Secrets Act.<\/p>\n<p>The charge-sheet stated that both accused publicly flaunted a classified document during a rally on March 27, 2022, exploiting it for personal gain in a deliberate manner, highlighting that the unlawful actions harmed the nation&#8217;s reputation, security, and diplomatic affairs.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><script async defer crossorigin=\"anonymous\" src=\"https:\/\/connect.facebook.net\/en_US\/sdk.js#xfbml=1&#038;version=v5.0&#038;appId=419051588770002&#038;autoLogAppEvents=1\"><\/script><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court (SC) granted bail\u00a0to former prime minister Imran Khan and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Shah Mahmood Qureshi on Friday in the cypher case.
