{"id":38218,"date":"2023-12-21T19:40:31","date_gmt":"2023-12-21T19:40:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/news.pakistaninewspaperlist.com\/china-quake-survivors-recover-in-hospitals-as-toll-rises-to-135\/"},"modified":"2023-12-21T19:40:31","modified_gmt":"2023-12-21T19:40:31","slug":"china-quake-survivors-recover-in-hospitals-as-toll-rises-to-135","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pakistaninewspaperlist.com\/news\/china-quake-survivors-recover-in-hospitals-as-toll-rises-to-135\/","title":{"rendered":"China quake survivors recover in hospitals as toll rises to 135"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\n<p>Chinese earthquake survivors recovered in hospital as rescue teams rushed to deliver supplies on Thursday, the third day since the country\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1799105\">deadliest quake<\/a> in years killed 135 people.<\/p>\n<p>The toll rose from the previous day\u2019s 134, state news agency <em>Xinhua<\/em> said, as rescuers continued to search for victims buried as the soil liquified in northwestern Qinghai Province.<\/p>\n<p>Almost 1,000 were injured across Qinghai and neighbouring Gansu province after the strong, shallow tremor hit the region on Monday night.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"media  sm:w-1\/2  w-full  media--right  media--embed  media--uneven\">\n<p>    <iframe class=\"nk-iframe\" onload=\"setInterval(()=&gt;{try{this.style.height=this.contentWindow.document.body.scrollHeight+'px';}catch{}}, 100)\" width=\"100%\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" style=\"height:400px;position:relative\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/card\/1799333\" sandbox=\"allow-same-origin allow-scripts allow-popups allow-modals allow-forms\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>At the Jishishan County People\u2019s Hospital in Gansu, near the epicentre of the quake, doctors attended to survivors with mild injuries on Thursday, administering intravenous drips and examining X-rays in buildings visibly damaged by the tremor.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI really want to go home,\u201d one patient, a middle-aged woman waiting to receive surgery on her injured leg, told <em>AFP<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut my place has been destroyed, so I wonder where I can go,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeople are still worried about the aftershocks, they can\u2019t sleep well because there is no safe place\u201d, a Jishishan county official told <em>AFP<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>The US Geological Survey said Monday night\u2019s magnitude-5.9 quake struck at 11:59 pm with an epicentre about 100 kilometers from Gansu\u2019s provincial capital, Lanzhou.<\/p>\n<p>Dozens of smaller aftershocks followed and officials warned that tremors with a magnitude of more than 5.0 were possible in the next few days.<\/p>\n<p>Rescuers from across the country appeared to have reached more survivors in rural Gansu overnight, with <em>AFP<\/em> reporters seeing that large numbers of government-issued blue tents had been put up in Jishishan to replace improvised shelters built by residents immediately after the quake.<\/p>\n<p>In Qinghai province, 12 people remain missing after a \u201csand boil\u201d disaster on Tuesday buried people alive and in Zhongchuan Township, according to <em>Xinhua<\/em>.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Chinese earthquake survivors recovered in hospital as rescue teams rushed to deliver supplies on Thursday, the third day since the country\u2019s deadliest quake in years killed 135 people.
