{"id":35878,"date":"2023-12-15T19:24:05","date_gmt":"2023-12-15T19:24:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/news.pakistaninewspaperlist.com\/al-jazeera-cameraman-killed-journalist-injured-in-gaza-missile-strike\/"},"modified":"2023-12-15T19:24:05","modified_gmt":"2023-12-15T19:24:05","slug":"al-jazeera-cameraman-killed-journalist-injured-in-gaza-missile-strike","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pakistaninewspaperlist.com\/news\/al-jazeera-cameraman-killed-journalist-injured-in-gaza-missile-strike\/","title":{"rendered":"Al Jazeera cameraman killed, journalist injured in Gaza missile strike"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\n<p>An <em>Al Jazeera<\/em> journalist was killed while another was wounded on Friday by a missile fired from a drone in Khan Younis in the southern Gaza Strip, the broadcaster reported.<\/p>\n<p>Cameraman Samer Abu Daqqa was injured along with a colleague while covering the bombing of a school, <em>Al Jazeera<\/em> said in an earlier statement.<\/p>\n<p>Rescuers were unable to reach Abu Daqqa to take him for treatment.<\/p>\n<p>The rescuers just managed to retrieve the cameraman\u2019s body, a spokesperson said.<\/p>\n<p>Al Jazeera said the journalists were hit by a missile fired from a drone in the city of Khan Younis in southern Gaza.<\/p>\n<p>The outlet\u2019s managing editor Mohamed Moawad lauded the deceased for his work ethic and commitment to journalism.<\/p>\n<p>He had earlier appealed to the global journalistic community, the International Committee of the Red Cross and humanitarian organisations to swiftly coordinate Abu Daqqa\u2019s evacuation.<\/p>\n<p>The outlet said Wael al-Dahdouh was injured in his hand and was being treated.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"media  sm:w-1\/2  w-full  media--right  media--embed  media--uneven\">\n<p>    <iframe class=\"nk-iframe\" onload=\"setInterval(()=&gt;{try{this.style.height=this.contentWindow.document.body.scrollHeight+'px';}catch{}}, 100)\" width=\"100%\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" style=\"height:400px;position:relative\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/card\/1783838\" sandbox=\"allow-same-origin allow-scripts allow-popups allow-modals allow-forms\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Dahdouh, the Arabic broadcaster\u2019s Gaza correspondent, is particularly well known to viewers across the Middle East after learning last month during an emotional live broadcast that his wife, son, daughter and grandson were killed in an Israeli air strike on the Nuseirat refugee camp.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Al Jazeera Media Network extends its sincere condolences and sympathy to our colleague Wael Al-Dahdouh on the loss of his family in an Israeli airstrike,\u201d the outlet had said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe indiscriminate assault by the Israeli occupation forces resulted in the tragic loss of his wife, son and daughter, while the rest of his family is buried under the rubble.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In images and footage run by <em>Al Jazeera<\/em> and shared on social media, Al-Dahdouh was shown mourning over the bodies of his wife and children at a hospital in Deir el-Balah in the southern Gaza Strip.<\/p>\n<p>Al-Dahdouh spoke to <em>Al Jazeera<\/em> on his way out of the hospital: \u201cWhat happened is clear. This is a series of targeted attacks on children, women and civilians. I was just reporting from Yarmouk about such an attack, and the Israeli raids have targeted many areas, including Nuseirat.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe had our doubts that the Israeli occupation would not let these people go without punishing them. And sadly, that is what happened. This is the \u2018safe\u2019 area that the occupation army spoke of.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em>Al Jazeera<\/em> had said the family were staying in a temporary home after evacuating Gaza City following Israel\u2019s warning for residents to move south as its forces intensified strikes in Gaza.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is the safe zone the occupation (Israeli) army was talking about,\u201d Al-Dahdouh had said on <em>Al Jazeera<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>The media organisation had said that \u201ctheir home was targeted in the Nuseirat camp in the centre of Gaza, where they had sought refuge after being displaced by the initial bombardment in their neighbourhood.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAl Jazeera is deeply concerned about the safety and well-being of our colleagues in Gaza and hold the Israeli authorities responsible for their security,\u201d it had added.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"media  sm:w-1\/2  w-full  media--right  media--embed  media--uneven\">\n<p>    <iframe class=\"nk-iframe\" onload=\"setInterval(()=&gt;{try{this.style.height=this.contentWindow.document.body.scrollHeight+'px';}catch{}}, 100)\" width=\"100%\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" style=\"height:400px;position:relative\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/card\/1796629\" sandbox=\"allow-same-origin allow-scripts allow-popups allow-modals allow-forms\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>According to the Committee to Protect Journalists, a total of 63 journalists and media workers have been verified as deceased so far in the Gaza Strip: 56 Palestinian, four Israeli, and three Lebanese.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, there are reports that 11 journalists have sustained injuries, three have been declared missing, and 19 journalists have been reported as arrested.
