The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has raised questions on the PTI intra-party polls, stating that the party did not fulfil the legal requirements, and sought a reply from it.<\/p>\n

According to Express News, the polls supervisor issued a notice to PTI CEC Niazullah Niazi, summoning him in personal capacity on December 18.<\/p>\n

The notice stated that the PTI intra-party polls were apparently not in accordance with the party\u2019s constitution Rules 2020 and the Election Act 2017.<\/p>\n

It further maintained that the ECP issues certificate after all the legal requirements for holding intra-party elections under the Election Rules 2017 are fulfilled.<\/p>\n

On December 2, the PTI held its intra-party elections on the instructions of the ECP and elected Barrister Gohar Khan as the party’s new chairman.<\/p>\n

\u00a0The new party chairman was elected unopposed after being recently nominated for the post by ex-PTI chief Imran Khan.<\/p>\n

\u00a0Meanwhile, senior PTI leader Omar Ayub was elected as the new general secretary while Ali Amin Gandapur was elected as the party’s provincial president in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.<\/p>\n

\u00a0On November 23, the ECP nullified PTI’s intra-party elections conducted in June last year, deeming them “highly objectionable”.<\/p>\n

Earlier, PTI officially announced that Imran Khan would refrain from contesting the intra-party polls due to legal constraints, with Gohar set to stand in his place as a provisional measure.<\/p>\n

The ECP’s directive to hold intra-party elections within 20 days to retain the bat as the party’s symbol had prompted PTI’s expeditious preparations.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
