Former Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Shaukat Tarin on Sunday resigned from the membership of the Upper House of the Parliament. <\/span><\/p>\n

The resignation was accepted by the Chairman Senate Muhammad Sadiq Sanjrani during a meeting with the former federal minister in Dubai.<\/span><\/p>\n

It should be noted that Sanjrani had travelled from Iraq to the UAE. <\/span><\/p>\n

On Friday, the seasoned politician, after parting ways with the party and politics, wrote in a message<\/a> that he had assisted various political parties in managing the country\u2019s economy. He maintained that as finance minister during the tenure of the PPP government in 2008-10, he had saved the country from default and stabilised the economy.<\/span><\/p>\n

He also gave himself credit for making all stakeholders reach a consensus on the National Finance Commission Award after 19 years. Tarin claimed that he had performed his best as the finance minister during the tenure of the PTI government in 17 years as stated in the economic survey of Pakistan of 2022.<\/span><\/p>\n

Read <\/strong>Case against Tarin<\/a><\/p>\n

Tarin was appointed as the finance minister by the PTI government on April 17, 2021. However, as he was not elected to parliament, his constitutional term ended on Oct 16, 2021. Following that, the PTI government appointed him as the finance adviser. In Dec 2021, the PTI government succeeded in having Tarin elected as a senator, following which he was again appointed as the finance minister.<\/span><\/p>\n

In a video message, noting that the past two years in terms of his health and financial standing have been challenging, Tarin said: \u201cCovid had happened as well\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n

He further mentioned that he had made this decision after consulting his family and friends. <\/span><\/p>\n
