The newly appointed Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman, Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, on Thursday said that the final authority of who would receive the party ticket for the upcoming general elections <\/a>rested with the founding PTI chairman, Imran Khan \u2013 currently in jail.<\/p>\n

After holding his second meeting with Imran at the Adiala Jail, the PTI chairman said that the potential candidates were already being interviewed, adding that the integrity and dedication to party\u2019s principles were the core values for obtaining the PTI ticket.<\/p>\n

Following the meeting, Barrister Gohar said that matters pertaining to the party\u2019s organisational affairs, legal matters concerning upcoming elections, and ongoing cases were discussed with Imran, who was currently incarcerated and entangled in multiple cases.<\/p>\n

Gohar revealed that the committees had already been formed to oversee the selection of candidates for the upcoming elections. \u201cThe party is actively engaged in preparations, ensuring a thorough vetting process to field candidates with integrity and dedication to party\u2019s principles,\u201d the PTI chairman said.<\/p>\n

Highlighting the significance of the founder\u2019s role, Barrister Gohar stated: \u201cThe founding chairman holds the authority to decide who will receive the party’s ticket.\u201d Gohar\u2019s disclosure came on the heels of a story published in The Express Tribune, revealing that the party had been busy screening candidates and was all set to distribute party tickets.<\/p>\n

Speaking to the media outside the Adiala Jail, Gohar emphasised that the recently held intra-party elections, as mandated by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), were conducted in strict adherence to the constitution and legal guidelines.<\/p>\n

He expressed confidence in the PTI\u2019s commitment to maintain a clean and fair electoral process, despite alleged attempts to tarnish the party’s image. Acknowledging the challenges faced by the party, the PTI chairman described the current phase as \u201ca testing time for the party\u201d.<\/p>\n

Despite external efforts to create obstacles, he expressed optimism about the PTI\u2019s resilience and ability to overcome challenges. Regarding the ongoing legal battles, Gohar expressed hope for relief from the courts, saying the party was actively pursuing legal avenues to address any legal challenges, signalling a commitment to upholding democratic principles.<\/p>\n

In a reaffirmation to his commitment, Gohar said: \u201cI belong to the PTI and will stay with it.\u201d He also praised the former prime minister for setting an example by entrusting the party\u2019s leadership to a dedicated worker.<\/p>\n

He highlighted the meritocratic approach within the PTI, contrasting it with practices of nepotism seen in other political spheres. Amid the complexities faced by the PTI, he expressed confidence in navigating the challenges.
The commitment to transparency, adherence to democratic values, and the founder\u2019s continued influence all contributed to the PTI\u2019s ongoing efforts to uphold its principles and \u201ccontribute positively to Pakistan\u2019s political landscape\u201d.<\/p>\n

On Thursday, it was reported that despite being pushed down and faced with multiple cases, Imran would finalise the party candidates, whose names would then be announced by Gohar. \u201cThe process of finalisation of the candidates is at the final stage,\u201d PTI leader Shoaib Shaheen told The Express Tribune. \u201cThe PTI Core Committee is looking into it and currently interviewing the candidates.\u201d<\/p>\n

He revealed that majority of party tickets were expected to be given to lawyers as they stood by the PTI in difficult situation. Though many legal eagles would be contesting on the PTI\u2019s ticket, Shaheen said that electables could not completely be eliminated from the scene. He said that the electables, young, and old party workers and those who stood by the party when it needed the most would be given preference.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
