{"id":31916,"date":"2023-12-05T20:56:09","date_gmt":"2023-12-05T20:56:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/news.pakistaninewspaperlist.com\/grand-theft-auto-vi-what-we-learned-from-the-trailer\/"},"modified":"2023-12-05T20:56:09","modified_gmt":"2023-12-05T20:56:09","slug":"grand-theft-auto-vi-what-we-learned-from-the-trailer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pakistaninewspaperlist.com\/news\/grand-theft-auto-vi-what-we-learned-from-the-trailer\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Grand Theft Auto VI&#8217;: What we learned from the trailer"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p><strong>Fans around the world exploded with excitement Monday when Rockstar Games released the first trailer for \u2018<em>Grand Theft Auto VI<\/em>\u2018 also titled \u2018<em>GTA VI<\/em>\u2018 or \u2018<em>GTA 6<\/em>\u2018<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Watch ARY News live on\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/live.arynews.tv\/hq\/\">live.arynews.tv<\/a><\/strong><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The first look at the next instalment in the blockbuster series follows years of feverish speculation about the setting, characters and atmosphere of GTA VI.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What does the game look like?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe style=\"border: none; overflow: hidden;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/post.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Fphoto.php%3Ffbid%3D225680713892218%26set%3Da.101926789600945%26type%3D3&amp;show_text=true&amp;width=500\" width=\"500\" height=\"709\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The trailer shows Vice City, in the state of Leonida, in breathtaking detail \u2014 a major upgrade from the graphics in GTA V, released 10 years ago.<\/p>\n<p>This is a fictional version of Miami, Florida, where the 2002 hit \u201cGrand Theft Auto: Vice City\u201d was based.<\/p>\n<p>Set to \u201cLove Is a Long Road\u201d by Tom Petty, the video contains all that people across the globe have come to love \u2014 or hate \u2014 about GTA: high-octane chases in fast cars, a vast open world rendered in rich detail, scantily clad women, and numerous references poking fun at social media culture.<\/p>\n<p>Sam Houser, Rockstar\u2019s founder, said GTA VI \u201ccontinues our efforts to push the limits of what\u2019s possible in highly immersive, story-driven open-world experiences\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What is the biggest change?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe style=\"border: none; overflow: hidden;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/post.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Fphoto.php%3Ffbid%3D907360814296838%26set%3Da.200913244941602%26type%3D3&amp;show_text=true&amp;width=500\" width=\"500\" height=\"646\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>For the first time, a GTA game will feature a woman as one of the protagonists. Front and centre of the trailer is Lucia, introduced at what appears to be a prison in an orange inmate jumpsuit.<\/p>\n<p>She is later shown partnering with a man \u2014 unnamed in the trailer. The duo are seen breaking into stores wearing masks, and racing away in their car from pursuers.<\/p>\n<p>The introduction of Lucia \u2014 and the focus on her in the trailer \u2014 follows decades of criticism against Rockstar over its depiction of women in its games, in particular the lack of agency and the violence and denigration they suffer.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFrom what we can tell at this stage\u2026 It is a noteworthy decision, and one that other game companies haven\u2019t necessarily made in the past when there\u2019s an option between gendered protagonists,\u201d Esther Wright, a games historian at Cardiff University, told AFP.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat said, it instantly looks like the GTA people know and love\u2026 this is still very comfortably in Rockstar\u2019s wheelhouse,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ll have to wait and see whether commitment to the GTA branding, and players\u2019 expectation of it, leaves enough space to meaningfully engage with a different perspective.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Who will get to play GTA VI, and when?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If gamers were thrilled by what they saw of GTA VI, they were left slightly frustrated by the release date revealed at the end of the trailer: 2025.<\/p>\n<p>The game will be released on Sony\u2019s PlayStation 5 and Microsoft\u2019s Xbox Series X and Series S consoles, Rockstar said.<\/p>\n<p>It did not mention a PC version.<\/p>\n<p><strong>How did fans react?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>There appeared to be near-universal praise from fans on social media, and the trailer swiftly became one of the hottest topics online.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGave me goosebumps,\u201d commented @sachinbhujel909 on YouTube. \u201cWe (have) all been waiting for a good part of our life\u2026 RIP to the ones who never made it to see this.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In just over 10 hours, the trailer racked up more than 54 million views on YouTube.<\/p>\n<p>It led to speculation that it might challenge for the record number of views in the first 24 hours \u2014 reportedly more than 100 million for the \u201cButter\u201d music video by K-pop superstars BTS.<\/p>\n<p>GTA VI and related topics became the top trends worldwide on X, formerly Twitter, soon after the trailer was released, inspiring a flood of memes.<\/p>\n<p>Some poked fun at how long they will have to wait to play the game, including users who posted videos of people switching to a healthier lifestyle to survive until 2025.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Wasn\u2019t the trailer due on Tuesday?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Rockstar had announced that the trailer would be released at 1400 GMT on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>But someone leaked the video nearly a day earlier on X. The account was suspended swiftly but the leak forced the company to share the trailer ahead of schedule.<\/p>\n<p>Some online joked about the fate of the leaker, speculating about how Rockstar \u2014 a famously secretive company \u2014 could punish them.<\/p>\n<p>X user @vidsthatgohard shared an image of an explosion at a house, with the caption: \u201cNOOOOO they got the gta
