Singer-songwriter and actor Dove Cameron is breaking away from her Disney star persona and putting a new version of herself out there with \u2018Alchemical: Volume 1\u2019<\/em>, the first part in her debut studio album.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u2018Alchemical: Volume 1\u2019<\/em>, which has eight songs, including \u2018Sand\u2019<\/em>, will be released on December 1.<\/p>\n

The former child star, who appeared in Disney\u2019s 2015 film \u2018Descendants\u2019<\/em>, its sequels and TV spin-off for many years, has been reflecting on her self-growth since her days as a kid working in Hollywood.<\/p>\n

\u201cGrowing up in the public eye, I trained my brain to think first about what other people wanted from me rather than what I knew I needed,\u201d Dove Cameron said in an interview.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen you start that young, and your whole life is catalogued and interpreted in a way that might not actually be reality, I think you start to look at things from an external point of view and you start to reject your own personal experiences as being valid,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n

In 2022, she released her first non-Disney hit song called \u2018Boyfriend\u2019<\/em>, which served as an avenue for Cameron to share with the world that she\u2019s part of the LGBTQ+ community.<\/p>\n

\u2018Boyfriend\u2019<\/em> is based on events from Cameron\u2019s life that helped shape her sexuality and was performed during the 2022 American Music Awards (AMAs), the same night she won the New Artist of the Year.<\/p>\n

\u201cI just decided, it\u2019s now or never,\u201d Cameron said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was really grateful with how people responded,\u201d she added. \u201cStill, obviously there\u2019s still quite a lot of negativity around it, but I just think when it\u2019s for yourself, you can\u2019t find issue with that.\u201d<\/p>\n

After releasing \u2018Boyfriend\u2019<\/em>, Cameron decided to delete all her previous song-writing work from streaming services, as she felt it didn\u2019t represent who she was anymore.<\/p>\n

The Daytime Emmy-award-winning actor feels that she is in an \u2018amazing place in her life\u2019 now where anything feels possible for her, which means not conforming to a certain image.<\/p>\n

Looking back, her Disney brand, as well as other personas in her career, felt \u2018unhealthy\u2019 for her, she said. Cameron said she now wants to evolve into whatever version of herself feels right.<\/p>\n
