{"id":29645,"date":"2023-11-29T12:53:03","date_gmt":"2023-11-29T12:53:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/news.pakistaninewspaperlist.com\/imran-khan-will-not-contest-intra-party-polls-on-dec-2-says-barrister-ali-zafar\/"},"modified":"2023-11-29T12:53:03","modified_gmt":"2023-11-29T12:53:03","slug":"imran-khan-will-not-contest-intra-party-polls-on-dec-2-says-barrister-ali-zafar","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pakistaninewspaperlist.com\/news\/imran-khan-will-not-contest-intra-party-polls-on-dec-2-says-barrister-ali-zafar\/","title":{"rendered":"Imran Khan will not contest intra-party polls on Dec 2, says Barrister Ali Zafar"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p>The Barrister for the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI), Ali Zafar, has made an announcement on Wednesday that the Chairman <a href=\"https:\/\/channel24.pk\/nab-interrogates-imran-khan-for-hours-in-al-qadir-trust-case\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\">Imran Khan<\/a> would not be contesting intra-party polls which will take place on December 2 and Barrister Gohar Khan had been nominated for the slot of the party chairman.<\/p>\n<p>The announcement about the above mentioned comes a day following the party found itself embroiled in fresh controversy after denying a statement by one of its own senior leaders, who had claimed that Imran Khan would not contest the upcoming polls for the slot of the party chairman and that he had picked someone to contest in his stead.<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-1\" style=\"margin: 8px 0; clear: both;\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbiu.gov.dm\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" rel=\"nofollow external noopener noreferrer\"><\/a><\/div>\n<p>While addressing, Zafar said that, the <a href=\"https:\/\/channel24.pk\/completion-of-100-days-of-imran-khans-arrest-netizens-react\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\">PTI<\/a> chief had been convicted in the Toshakhana case.<\/p>\n<p>Maintaining that a person could not be disqualified for failing to announce Toshakhana gifts, Zafar said that the party then had to see if the ECP would take any \u201cillegal\u201d step that would prevent the party from getting the bat as its poll symbol or cancel the nominations of the candidates.<\/p>\n<p>He added that while Imran\u2019s Toshakhana sentence has been suspended but a \u2018final decision\u2019 had not yet been taken.<\/p>\n<p>Adding further on this, Zafar added that, \u201cAll these subjects were discussed with PTI Chairman Imran Khan in front of other lawyers. Imran don\u2019t want to give the ECP any excuse for not giving the party the bat symbol in the upcoming general elections, rejecting the nomination of the candidates or for not taking part in the election.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Zafar quoted Imran Khan as saying that, \u201cThe public is with us. We will win through to absolute victory if the elections happen. I want to take part in the general election. Intra-party polls hold no meaning for me. I want the Toshakhana case is decided as soon as possible.
