In view of the critical Air Quality Index, educational institutions in six divisions of Punjab, including Lahore, will remain closed for two days as part of the smart lockdown. Markets, restaurants and cinemas will open at 3:00pm to curb outdoor activities during peak pollution hours.<\/span><\/p>\n

The provincial capital is grappling with a severe smog crisis, pushing the caretaker government to enforce smart lockdown with strict measures to combat escalating air pollution. <\/span><\/p>\n

As smog levels surged, Lahore claimed the top spot for air pollution globally.<\/span><\/p>\n

According to officials, action is being taken against those causing pollution by burning crop residue. FIRs have been registered against 21 people involved in the activity in various districts. <\/span><\/p>\n

To further limit public movement, the Mall Road will be open only for pedestrians and bicycles.<\/span><\/p>\n

Despite efforts from the authorities, including the environment department, to curb smog and pollution, the situation remains grim.<\/span><\/p>\n

The AQI in Lahore reached a staggering 415, pointing to the severity of the smog crisis. Specific locations reported even higher levels, with DHA Phase 8 at 452, Cantt Polo Ground at 480, Lahore College for Women University at 335, Town Hall at 358 and Punjab University Lahore College at 288.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Meteorological Department predicts no rain in the next 24 hours, exacerbating concerns as temperatures drop, intensifying the cold.<\/span><\/p>\n

In light of the ongoing crisis, Caretaker Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi instructed the relief commissioner of Punjab to enforce a lockdown on Sundays, further restricting transportation in smog-affected districts. <\/span><\/p>\n

The restrictions will apply to Lahore, Gujranwala, Multan, Sargodha, Faisalabad and Sahiwal divisions.<\/span><\/p>\n

Markets will open after 4:00pm on Sundays, with exceptions for essential services.<\/p>\n
