The apex court has been moved through a petition contending that President Dr Arif Alvi has failed to fulfil his constitutional duties and is therefore liable to be removed from his office.<\/p>\n

The petition, filed by Ghulam Murtaza Khan under Article 184 (3) of the Constitution, names the president, his secretary, and the Ministry of Law and Justice as respondents.<\/p>\n

Referring to two verdicts of the Supreme Court, the petition stated that the president failed to fulfil his constitutional responsibilities.<\/p>\n

It alleged that Dr Alvi misused his powers and undermined the office of the president.<\/p>\n

It stated that the president represented the entire nation, not just a political party, but Alvi, who had been a close confidant of PTI Chairman and former prime minister Imran Khan, had diverted his presidential office for the political activities of the PTI.<\/p>\n

It claimed that Alvi had also committed unconstitutional actions by improperly using the authority of his presidency.
The president failed in his constitutional obligations, as he was supposed to announce the date for the upcoming general elections but did not do so.<\/p>\n

He failed to ensure implementation of Article 5 of the Constitution, it added.<\/p>\n

The petition requested the Supreme Court to restrain Alvi from working as president and take legal action against him for violating the Constitution and laws.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
