{"id":25157,"date":"2023-11-16T13:05:06","date_gmt":"2023-11-16T13:05:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/news.pakistaninewspaperlist.com\/ihc-extends-stay-against-trial-of-pti-chief-in-cipher-case\/"},"modified":"2023-11-16T13:05:06","modified_gmt":"2023-11-16T13:05:06","slug":"ihc-extends-stay-against-trial-of-pti-chief-in-cipher-case","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pakistaninewspaperlist.com\/news\/ihc-extends-stay-against-trial-of-pti-chief-in-cipher-case\/","title":{"rendered":"IHC extends stay against trial of PTI chief in cipher case"},"content":{"rendered":"<div data-td-block-uid=\"tdi_98\">\n<div class=\"tdb-block-inner td-fix-index\">\n<p><strong>ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) Thursday extended until November 20 the stay against the jail trial of the former prime minister in the cipher case, ARY News reported.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman is currently detained in Adiala jail in Rawalpindi on judicial remand.<\/p>\n<p>During today\u2019s hearing, the court approved an extension in the stay order on the request of Imran Khan\u2019s lawyer Salman Akram Raja until Monday, November 20.<\/p>\n<p>In another development today, the former prime minister approached the Supreme Court (SC), seeking post-arrest bail in missing cipher case.<\/p>\n<p>In his plea, the PTI chairman urged the apex court to overturn IHC order in cipher case and set him free.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Cipher case<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>The first information report (FIR) was registered on August 15 under the Official Secrets Act. It was registered on the complaint of the Home Secretary.<\/p>\n<p>Former prime minister Imran Khan and former foreign minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi were nominated in the report, while names of former principal secretary Azam Khan and former planning minister Asad Umar were also mentioned.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Read more:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/arynews.tv\/cipher-case-witnesses-list-against-pti-chief-surfaces\/\">Cipher case: Witnesses list against PTI chief surfaces<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The FIR stated that the former prime minister and foreign minister distorted the facts of the diplomatic cipher. \u201cA conspiracy was launched to misuse the contents of the cipher to fulfill nefarious purposes\u201d, it added.
