{"id":25075,"date":"2023-11-16T07:12:05","date_gmt":"2023-11-16T07:12:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/news.pakistaninewspaperlist.com\/psx-rupee-surge-after-imf-review-success\/"},"modified":"2023-11-16T07:12:05","modified_gmt":"2023-11-16T07:12:05","slug":"psx-rupee-surge-after-imf-review-success","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pakistaninewspaperlist.com\/news\/psx-rupee-surge-after-imf-review-success\/","title":{"rendered":"PSX, rupee surge after IMF review success"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\n<p>The Pakistan Stock Exchange\u2019s (PSX) benchmark index and rupee recorded gains on Thursday, a day after the government and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) reached a staff-level agreement <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1789759\/success-in-imf-review-set-to-unlock-700m\">paved the way<\/a> for Pakistan to receive $700 as part of the the Stand-by Agreement.<\/p>\n<p>As of 11:34am, the KSE-100 index <a rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"link--external\" href=\"https:\/\/www.psx.com.pk\/\">surged<\/a> by 470.91 points, or up 0.83pc, to reach 57,155.14. The previous close was 56,680.<\/p>\n<p>Tresmark Finance said the index was at an \u201call-time high\u201d after crossing the 57,000 milestone.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the PKR gained Rs2.08 against the dollar in the interbank market after the recording consecutive losses in 17 sessions. According to the Forex Association of Pakistan, the rupee was changing hands at Rs286.06 at 12:07pm.<\/p>\n<p>The IMF funds to be issued are a second tranche of the nine-month bailout package and are subject to approval from the IMF\u2019s executive board, the lender said in a statement yesterday. This will bring total disbursements under the $3bn package, approved in July, to almost $1.9bn.<\/p>\n<p>The IMF had called upon the authorities to restore full return to the market-determined exchange rate and highlighted risks that may arise because of geopolitical tensions, rise in commodity prices and difficult global financial conditions, and advised the authorities to continue efforts to build resilience.<\/p>\n<p>It had also pointed out that the timely disbursement of committed external support remains critical to support the authorities\u2019 policy and reform efforts as the government was accelerating engagement with multilateral and official bilateral partners.<\/p>\n<p>Today\u2019s optimism followed a flat day at the market, as stocks saw <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1789719\">consolidation<\/a> over the decision by MSCI \u2014 a provider of global indices for passive investments \u2014 to reduce the weight of Pakistani shares in its frontier market\u2019s benchmark a day ago.<\/p>\n<hr\/>\n<p><em>More to follow<\/em><\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Pakistan Stock Exchange\u2019s (PSX) benchmark index and rupee recorded gains on Thursday, a day after the government and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) reached a staff-level agreement paved the way for Pakistan to receive $700 as part of the the Stand-by Agreement.
