{"id":23497,"date":"2023-11-11T09:51:59","date_gmt":"2023-11-11T09:51:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/news.pakistaninewspaperlist.com\/asad-umar-resigns-from-pti-completely-quits-politics\/"},"modified":"2023-11-11T09:51:59","modified_gmt":"2023-11-11T09:51:59","slug":"asad-umar-resigns-from-pti-completely-quits-politics","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pakistaninewspaperlist.com\/news\/asad-umar-resigns-from-pti-completely-quits-politics\/","title":{"rendered":"Asad Umar resigns from PTI, completely quits politics"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\n<p>Former planning minister Asad Umar, who had <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1755524\">resigned<\/a> as the PTI\u2019s secretary general in May following the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1752254\">May 9 riots<\/a>, on Saturday resigned from the party\u2019s basic membership as well as quit politics.<\/p>\n<p>In a post on X, he wrote, \u201cAfter more than one decade in public life, I have decided to completely quit politics.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"media  sm:w-1\/2  w-full  media--right  media--embed  media--uneven\">\n<p>    <iframe class=\"nk-iframe\" onload=\"setInterval(()=&gt;{try{this.style.height=this.contentWindow.document.body.scrollHeight+'px';}catch{}}, 100)\" width=\"100%\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" style=\"height:400px;position:relative\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/card\/1781417\" sandbox=\"allow-same-origin allow-scripts allow-popups allow-modals allow-forms\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>\u201cI am resigning from [the] basic membership of PTI,\u201d Umar, who once was a close aide of PTI Chairman Imran Khan, stated.<\/p>\n<p>Umar follows a long list of politicians who have quit the PTI after a nationwide crackdown was launched against the party and hundreds of prominent leaders were <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1755411\">arrested<\/a> in reaction to the May 9 riots that broke out after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1751782\">Imran\u2019s arrest<\/a> that day.<\/p>\n<p>Following his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1755524\">press conference<\/a> on May 24 \u2014 condemning May 9 events and announcing resignation from party positions \u2014 Umar had not indicated joining any other party, including the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1758637\">Istehkam-i-Pakistan Party<\/a> or the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1765262\">PTI Parliamentarians<\/a> (PTI-P), which have been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1781413\">welcoming<\/a> many PTI defectors to their folds.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"media  sm:w-1\/2  w-full  media--right  media--embed  media--uneven\">\n<p>    <iframe class=\"nk-iframe\" onload=\"setInterval(()=&gt;{try{this.style.height=this.contentWindow.document.body.scrollHeight+'px';}catch{}}, 100)\" width=\"100%\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" style=\"height:400px;position:relative\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/card\/1786066\" sandbox=\"allow-same-origin allow-scripts allow-popups allow-modals allow-forms\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Today, referring to the same press conference, Umar noted that he had \u201calready stated publicly earlier that I disagree with the policy of confrontation with state institutions\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The ex-PTI secretary general said \u201csuch a policy has led to a serious collision with state institutions, which is not in the interest of the country\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Umar went on to thank those who had supported him in his public life, particularly the \u201cNA-54 team and the voters who elected me twice\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have tried my best to serve the constituency that I was elected from.
