{"id":23023,"date":"2023-11-10T00:40:07","date_gmt":"2023-11-10T00:40:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/news.pakistaninewspaperlist.com\/congo-fever-claims-another-life-in-karachi\/"},"modified":"2023-11-10T00:40:07","modified_gmt":"2023-11-10T00:40:07","slug":"congo-fever-claims-another-life-in-karachi","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pakistaninewspaperlist.com\/news\/congo-fever-claims-another-life-in-karachi\/","title":{"rendered":"Congo fever claims another life in Karachi"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\n<p><figure class=\"media  sm:w-full  w-full  media--stretch    media--uneven  media--stretch\"><figcaption class=\"media__caption  \">Quetta: Two more Congo fever patients are being shifted to a private hospital in Karachi through an Edhi air ambulance from Quetta airport.\u2014Dawn<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p>\n<p>KARACHI: Another patient suffering from Crimean-Congo Haemo\u00adrrhagic Fever (CCHF) died at a private hospital on Wednesday, raising the death toll during the past four days to two, sources told <em>Dawn<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>The day also saw the shifting of two patients from Quetta to Karachi through an air ambulance operated by the Edhi welfare service.<\/p>\n<p>The deaths, they said, were reported at the Aga Khan University Hospital (AKUH) where four more patients affected by the tick-borne virus were brought.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe total number of patients including both suspected and those tested positive for CCHF is now 16. Of them, 12 have tested positive for the disease while lab results of four patients are awaited,\u201d AKUH official Shabbir Alam said, adding that the condition of one patient was critical.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTwo patients, one of them tested negative for CCHF and the other who recovered from the infection, have been discharged,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>While Mr Alam decli\u00adn\u00ad\u00aded to comment when ask\u00aded if the deceased was a healthcare provider who was lately shifted from Quetta to Karachi, sources said he was not a healthcare provider.<\/p>\n<p>The deceased was identified as 35-year-old Mir Waiz Khan, a resident of Pishin, they added.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"media  sm:w-1\/2  w-full  media--right  media--embed  media--uneven\">\n<p>    <iframe class=\"nk-iframe\" onload=\"setInterval(()=&gt;{try{this.style.height=this.contentWindow.document.body.scrollHeight+'px';}catch{}}, 100)\" width=\"100%\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" style=\"height:400px;position:relative\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/card\/1787399\" sandbox=\"allow-same-origin allow-scripts allow-popups allow-modals allow-forms\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Asked about the identity of the deceased, a spokesperson of Baloch\u00adistan health department expressed his unawareness about the cases and said only Dr Shakrullah had so far died of Congo fever in recent days.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are told that two doctors and one staff nurse are in critical condition at AKUH,\u201d said Dr Wasim Baig, media coordinator of the health department.<\/p>\n<p>Balochistan health dep\u00adartment\u2019s data on Congo fever showed the last two years have seen a significantly high number of CCHF infections and mortalities in the province, with 21 deaths recorded last year and 20 mortalities this year so far.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Two airlifted to Karachi<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, sources said, a ward boy, Ghani, and a security guard, Sadiq, who had been in contact with Congo positive doctors, have been airlifted to the AKUH, Karachi.<\/p>\n<p>Dr Hafeez Kakar of Young Doctors\u2019 Associa\u00adtion claimed that the Balochistan government hadn\u2019t yet provided the air ambulance service, which was arranged by doctors on their own.<\/p>\n<p>However, the caretaker chief minister of Baloch\u00adis\u00adtan claimed that the provincial go\u00ad\u00ad\u00advernment would bear their medical expe\u00adnses. \u201cThe caretaker government will not leave infected patients alone in this hard time,\u201d Ali Mardan Domki said.<\/p>\n<p>The CM said the two more pat\u00adients, who had been under treatment in Quetta, were shifted to Karachi through air ambulance in view of their condition.<\/p>\n<p>A health official said, \u201cEfforts are under way to save lives of doctors and other health providers admitted in the hospital.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The CM in a meeting also reviewed the measu\u00adres taken by the relevant authorities to control spre\u00ad\u00adad of the virus in Quetta.
