Nine terrorists were killed in a clearance operation after the Pakistan Army foiled a terrorist attack on the Mianwali Training Air Base of the Pakistan Air Force in the early hours of Saturday, the military\u2019s media wing said.<\/p>\n

The development comes on the heels of a series of incidents that left at least 17 soldiers martyred<\/a> in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.<\/p>\n

They include a militant attack in Gwadar, a remote-controlled bomb explosion in Dera Ismail Khan and a security operation in KP\u2019s Lakki Marwat. A fourth incident, another remote-controlled blast in Dl Khan, had left five people dead and at least 24 injured, including police officials.<\/p>\n

In a statement issued in the morning, the Inter-Services Public Relations had said the attack on the air base had been foiled, with three terrorists \u201cneutralised\u201d and three others \u201ccornered\/isolated\u201d.<\/p>\n

In an afternoon update, the military confirmed that the \u201ccombing and clearance operation at PAF Training Airbase Mianwali has been concluded and all nine terrorists have been sent to hell\u201d.<\/p>\n

It added that the operation was launched to \u201celiminate any potential threat in the surrounding area following the cowardly and failed terrorist attack on the base this morning\u201d.<\/p>\n

The ISPR further said that no damage has been done to any of the PAF\u2019s functional operational assets, while only some damage was done to three already phased-out non-operational aircraft during the attack.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe prompt and professional conclusion of the operation serves as a stark reminder to all enemies of peace that Pakistan\u2019s armed forces remain vigilant and are fully capable of defending the homeland from any threat,\u201d the statement asserted.<\/p>\n

In the earlier statement, it said that \u201csome damage to three already grounded aircraft and a fuel bowser also occurred\u201d during the attack and that it had launched a \u201ccomprehensive joint clearance and combing operation\u201d to clear the area of terrorists.<\/p>\n

The Tehreek-i-Jihad Pakistan (TJP), a newly emerged militant group that is an affiliate of the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), claimed responsibility in a statement to media.<\/p>\n

Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar said the PAF has \u201conce again proven its mettle by thwarting a cowardly terrorist attack in Mianwali\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cAny attempt to undermine our security will meet with unwavering resistance. The nation stands with you and we salute your courage and resolve,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

President Dr Arif Alvi \u201cdenounced\u201d the attack and expressed \u201csatisfaction\u201d at its failure, state-run Radio Pakistan<\/em> reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Also \u201cstrongly condemning\u201d yesterday\u2019s attack in Gwadar<\/a>, he was quoted as saying that \u201cterrorists are enemies of Pakistan and efforts will continue for their complete elimination\u201d.<\/p>\n

Interim interior minister Sarfraz Bugti said that the names of terrorists involved in today\u2019s and yesterday\u2019s attacks \u201cmust have been different but the enemy behind the scenes is the same\u201d.<\/p>\n

He termed the current wave of terror a \u201cconspiracy to make Pakistan a target of uncertainty and instability once again\u201d. The minister vowed that all civil and military institutions will unite to combat terrorism.<\/p>\n

Former premier Shehbaz Sharif also condemned the attack, saying that the \u201crepeated attacks reveal our enemies\u2019 desperation\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cPrayers for the affected families and our brave security personnel\u201d, he said while saluting the armed forces for \u201cfoiling evil plans\u201d.<\/p>\n

Former president Asif Ali Zardari praised the security forces as well for \u201crisking their lives and foiling the terrorists\u2019 plans\u201d.<\/p>\n

In a statement shared by the party\u2019s official social media account, he was quoted as saying that the nation stood with the Pakistan Army to end terrorism.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur war against those who build walls of hatred will continue until the end of the last terrorist,\u201d the PPP co-chairman said.<\/p>\n\n
