The Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) and City Traffic Police Lahore started imparting rickshaw-driving training to women under the “Female Rickshaw Project.” The City Traffic Police Lahore has trained 35 female drivers so far.<\/span><\/p>\n

This project has been initiated in collaboration with the University of Oxford and leading microfinance institutions including the NRSP, Akhuwat and RCDP. The project is being funded through the GEA initiative of the Abdul-Jameel Poverty Action Lab (J-PAL) at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). <\/span><\/p>\n

Chief Traffice Officer (CTO) Lahore Capt (RETD) Mustansar Feroze assigned a team of four female officers to train women on traffic laws and driving skills. The team also facilitated female beneficiaries for obtaining drivers licenses. <\/span><\/p>\n

The prime objective of the project is to create income-generating opportunities and safe transportation for women. It promotes financial inclusion for female rickshaw drivers.<\/p>\n
