Haris Nawaz, talking to media said that illegal Afghan immigrants in batches of 300 to 400 will be sent to Chaman border crossing within two to three days.Today, October 31, is fixed by the government as the last day of the immigrants illegally staying in Pakistan to leave voluntarily. Home minister said that illegal immigrants will not be kept in the country for more days.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAn operation will be launched against illegal immigrants from tomorrow,\u201d caretaker minister said.\u201cPakistan has host Afghan brethren for long time,\u201d he stated. \u201cThose staying legally in the country, wouldn\u2019t have any problem. Those without travel papers will be sent back to their country,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are 1,70,000 Afghan citizens in Sindh, around one Lac in Karachi,\u201d Nawaz said. He said that illegally staying Indian and Bangladeshi citizens will be sent back to their countries by trains.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA crackdown will be launched against those who won\u2019t leave the country voluntarily,\u201d he further said.\u201cThoseharbouring illegal immigrants would also face legal consequences,\u201d provincial minister said. The government has setup refugee camps in KP and Balochistan with arrangements of food, medical treatment and other basic necessities.<\/p>\n<p>As the clock ticked down to the Nov. 1 deadline Pakistan set for undocumented migrants to leave the country, Muhammad Rahim boarded a bus from Karachi to the Afghan border.\u201dWe\u2019d live here our whole life if they didn\u2019t send us back,\u201d said the 35-year-old Afghan national, who was born in Pakistan, married a Pakistani woman and raised his Pakistan-born children in the port city \u2013 but has no Pakistani identity documents.<\/p>\n<p>The Taliban government in Afghanistan said some 60,000 Afghans returned between Sept 23 to Oct 22 from Pakistan, which announced on Oct 4 it will expel undocumented migrants that do not leave.And recent daily returnee figures are three times higher than normal, Taliban refugee ministry spokesman Abdul MutalebHaqqani told media on Oct 26.Near Karachi\u2019s Sohrab Goth area \u2013 home to one of Pakistan\u2019s largest Afghan settlements \u2013 a bus service operator named Azizullah said he had laid on extra services to cope with the exodus.<\/p>\n<p>Nearby, lines formed before competitor bus services headed to Afghanistan.\u201dBefore I used to run one bus a week, now we have four to five a week,\u201d said Azizullah, who \u2013 like all the Afghan migrants Reuters interviewed \u2013 spoke on condition that he be identified by only one name due to the sensitivity of the matter.<\/p>\n<p>Reuters interviewed seven refugee families in Sohrab Goth, as well as four Taliban and Pakistani officials, community leaders, aid workers and advocates, who said Islamabad\u2019s threat \u2013 and a subsequent rise in state-backed harassment \u2013 has torn families apart and pushed even Afghans with valid papers to leave.The Pakistani Interior Ministry did not immediately return a request for comment. Foreign Ministry spokesman Mumtaz Zahra Baloch said in a statement that the expulsion plan was compliant with international norms and principles:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur record of the last forty years in hosting millions of our Afghan brothers and sisters speaks for itself.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPakistan is home to over 4 million Afghan migrants and refugees, about 1.7 million of whom are undocumented, according to Islamabad. Afghans make up the largest portion of migrants \u2013 many came after the Taliban retook Afghanistan in 2021, but a large number have been present since the 1979 Soviet invasion.<\/p>\n<p>The expulsion threat came after suicide bombings this year which the government \u2013 without providing evidence \u2013 said involved Afghans.
