Family, friends and fellow celebrities on Sunday mourned the loss of Matthew Perry, the wise-cracking co-star of the 1990s hit television sitcom\u00a0Friends<\/em>,\u00a0a day after the actor was found dead in a hot tub at his Los Angeles home. However, ever since the news of the star’s demise spread, people all over the globe have been mourning the beloved comedic actor, including South Asian celebrities.<\/p>\n

“Chandler became my whole personality for a while there (and I suspect it was the same for so many),” penned actor Osman Khalid Butt on X. “I owe that character, and Matthew Perry\u2019s pitch-perfect performance so much. You were there for me, Perry. Rest in peace.”<\/p>\n

“Rest in peace, friend,” wrote Mirza Gohar Rasheed on his Instagram Story, sharing an illustration of a laughing Chandler. Mahira Khan shared a quote by the departed star, wherein he said, “There’s nothing better than a world where everybody’s just trying to make each other laugh.” She added, “Thank you for the innumerable laughs.”<\/p>\n

Actor Ahmad Ali Butt shared an image that said, “Goodbye, Chandler Bing. Matthew Perry, 1969-2023.” Sarwat Gilani shared a reel that bid adieu to the star, stating alongside, “Farewell, our friend!”<\/p>\n

Stars from across the border also mourned the monumental loss. Ayushmann Khurrana shared an image of the same quote as the one shared by Mahira, adding a broken-heart emoji alongside. Kareena Kapoor Khan shared a screen grab of Chandler from Friends <\/em>and wrote, “Chandler forever” on her Instagram Story, adding a heart emoji. Alia Bhatt took to her Instagram Story to share an image of Matthew, penning alongside, “It’ll never be the same.”<\/p>\n

Word of Perry\u2019s death emerged late on Saturday in a flurry of news media reports, followed by statements from\u00a0NBC<\/em>, the broadcast network that aired\u00a0Friends\u00a0<\/em>for 10 years, and Warner Bros Television Group, which produced the show. No official details were immediately released.<\/p>\n

Asked about the circumstances of Perry\u2019s death, a Los Angeles Fire Department spokesperson, Captain Erik Scott, replied, without referring to Perry by name, that firefighters called an address in the Pacific Palisades neighbourhood and found \u201can adult male unconscious in a stand-alone jacuzzi.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cA bystander had brought the man\u2019s head above the water and gotten him to the edge, then firefighters removed him from the water upon their arrival,\u201d Scott wrote to Reuters <\/em>by text, adding that a quick medical assessment at the scene revealed \u201cthe man was deceased\u201d before emergency personnel arrived.<\/p>\n

The cause and manner of death are to be determined by medical examiners, he said. Scott\u2019s account was consistent with several news media reports, citing law enforcement sources, that Perry was found dead in a hot tub at his Los Angeles home. No foul play was suspected, according to those reports.<\/p>\n
