Asim Jamil, son of renowned Islamic scholar Maulana Tariq Jamil, passed away in Punjab\u2019s Talamba on Sunday, his family said.<\/p>\n
Confirming the news in a post on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Tariq said the \u201caccidental death\u201d had turned the atmosphere mournful.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe request you all to remember us in your prayers on this sad occasion. May Allah grant my son a high place in heaven,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
Mian Channu Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Mohammad Saleem told Dawn.com<\/em> that Asim was taken to Talamba Rural Health Centre, where he was pronounced dead.<\/p>\n The body is being moved to the family\u2019s home from the health centre, he added.<\/p>\n A statement from the Punjab police spokesperson said the cause of death appeared to be a \u201cgunshot\u201d.<\/p>\n Talking to Dawn.com<\/em>, Multan Regional Police Officer (RPO) Sohail Chaudhry said Asim \u201cshot himself in the chest\u201d in a gymnasium at his home. \u201cAccording to the family, Asim committed suicide,\u201d the RPO said.<\/p>\n Chaudhry further said the police had acquired CCTV footage that \u201cconfirms he can be seen shooting himself in the chest\u201d. \u201cWe are sending the footage for forensic analysis,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n Meanwhile, the Punjab police statement said Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr Usman Anwar took notice of the incident and sought a report from the Multan RPO.<\/p>\n IGP Anwar said the conclusive cause of death should be \u201cdetermined in the light of evidence and forensic report\u201d.<\/p>\n The police statement added that the Khanewal district police officer and other senior personnel were present on the scene and evidence had been collected.<\/p>\n National Assembly Speaker Raja Pervaiz Ashraf extended his condolences and solidarity to the bereaved family.<\/p>\n Caretaker Interior Minister Sarfraz Bugti expressed regret over the incident.<\/p>\n \u201cWe all share your grief over this accident,\u201d PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif said as he condoled the family.<\/p>\n The PTI and party secretary general Omar Ayub also extended their condolences.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Asim Jamil, son of renowned Islamic scholar Maulana Tariq Jamil, passed away in Punjab\u2019s Talamba on Sunday, his family said.
