following a disputed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1779436\/iran-detains-mother-of-teen-in-coma-after-metro-incident-report\">incident<\/a> on Tehran\u2019s metro, local media said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cArmita Garawand, a student in Tehran, died an hour ago after intensive medical treatment and 28 days of hospitalisation in intensive care,\u201d reported the <em>Borna<\/em> news agency affiliated with the youth ministry.<\/p>\n<p>The 16-year-old ethnic Kurd was hospitalised in Tehran after she fell unconscious on the metro.<\/p>\n<p>Her case was first reported on October 3 by Kurdish-focused rights group <a rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"link--external\" href=\"https:\/\/hengaw.net\/en\/news\/2023\/10\/hengaws-report-on-a-teenage-girl-a-victim-of-mandatory-hijab-in-tehrans-metro-in-iran\">Hengaw<\/a>, which said she had been critically wounded during an incident on the underground train network.<\/p>\n<p>Authorities say she suffered a sudden drop in blood pressure and denied that any \u201cphysical or verbal altercations\u201d had taken place between her and other passengers.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"media  sm:w-1\/2  w-full  media--right  media--embed  media--uneven\">\n<p>    <iframe class=\"nk-iframe\" onload=\"setInterval(()=&gt;{try{this.style.height=this.contentWindow.document.body.scrollHeight+'px';}catch{}}, 100)\" width=\"100%\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" allow-forms\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>But rights groups have said the teen was critically wounded during an alleged assault by members of Iran\u2019s morality police.<\/p>\n<p>It came just over a year after the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1710752\/fury-grows-in-iran-over-woman-who-died-after-hijab-arrest\">death of Mahsa Amini<\/a>, also a young Iranian Kurd, following her arrest by the morality police for allegedly breaching Iran\u2019s strict dress code for women in an incident that sparked <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1728820\">mass protests<\/a> across Iran.<\/p>\n<p>On Saturday, Iran\u2019s <em>Tasnim<\/em> news agency quoted doctors as saying that Garawand had \u201csuffered a fall resulting in brain damage followed by continued convulsions, a
