All our lifetime earnings and savings are stranded here. We have established businesses here, but they don\u2019t care,\u201d said Karachi camp resident Khan Mohammad, pleading for authorities to give his countrymen more time to leave.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"media  sm:w-1\/2  w-full  media--right  media--embed  media--uneven\">\n<p>    <iframe class=\"nk-iframe\" onload=\"setInterval(()=&gt;{try{this.style.height=this.contentWindow.document.body.scrollHeight+'px';}catch{}}, 100)\" width=\"100%\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" style=\"height:400px;position:relative\" src=\"https:\/\/images.dawn.com\/news\/card\/1192075\" sandbox=\"allow-same-origin allow-scripts allow-popups allow-modals allow-forms\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>More than 2,000 people are being processed each day, authorities have said, although most are labourers and traders who cross frequently back and forth.<\/p>\n<p>About 60,000 Afghans have \u201cvoluntarily\u201d left the country through the border in recent weeks, Feroz Jamal, a spokesman for the Khyber Pakhtun\u00adkhwa provincial government, told <em>AFP<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Although the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1779106\">deadline<\/a> to leave is still three days away, police have already begun raiding communities and detaining Afghans, with lawyers reporting indiscriminate arrests and extortion.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWomen at the border are facing a lot of problems, especially the pregnant women and people with disabilities, you can see they are waiting for their turn for hours,\u201d Hakeem Ullah, a border official, told <em>AFP<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><figure class=\"media  sm:w-full  w-full  media--stretch  \"><figcaption class=\"media__caption  \">Afghan refugees arrive in trucks to cross the Pakistan-Afghanistan border in Torkham on October 27, 2023. \u2014 AFP<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p>\n<p>Maroza Bibi and her children are among hundreds of Afghans waiting at the Pakistani border, hurriedly leaving a country she has called home for decades in fear of arrest.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am taking a lot of good memories. I was expecting Pakistan to give us nationality, but that did not happen, compelling us to go back almost empty-handed,\u201d the 52-year-old told <em>AFP<\/em> at the Torkham crossing.<\/p>\n<p>She says she was around 10 years old when her family fled the Soviet war in Afghanistan, settling in Kashmir, where she raised a family and where her husband is buried.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo avoid any humiliation by the Pakistani authorities I have decided to leave,\u201d Zulfiqar Khan, who was born to refugee parents in a sprawling Peshawar aid camp, told <em>AFP<\/em> at the border.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am leaving Pakistan with a heavy heart and a state of acute mental stress.
