\u201cThis is criminal and barbaric,\u201d says British journalist Sameh Habeeb.<\/p>\n

The family of an Al Jazeera<\/em> correspondent was killed in Gaza on Wednesday night after an Israeli strike<\/a>, which the health ministry said killed at least 25 people.<\/p>\n

The network said the strike hit the area where journalist Wael Al-Dahdouh\u2019s family had fled to following an Israeli warning as it plans a Gaza ground incursion.<\/p>\n

\u201cTheir home was targeted in the Nuseirat camp in the centre of Gaza, where they had sought refuge after being displaced by the initial bombardment in their neighborhood, following Prime Minister Netanyahu\u2019s call for all civilians to move south,\u201d Al Jazeera<\/em> said in a statement.<\/p>\n

The news drew a strong reaction from journalists, with some of them highlighting that it comes after reports<\/a> said the US had asked the network to \u201ctone down\u201d its coverage of the situation in Gaza.<\/p>\n

\u201cHeartbreaking,\u201d said Thomson Reuters Foundation<\/em> Deputy Editor-in-Chief Barry Malone.<\/p>\n

\u201cHorrible for a network that has already been through so much in its relatively short history,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is criminal and barbaric,\u201d said British journalist Sameh Habeeb.<\/p>\n

Ashok Swain, a professor of peace and conflict research at Sweden\u2019s Uppsala University, said, \u201cThere is no rule, no law, no norms, no fear, forget morals!\u201d<\/p>\n

Ryan Grim, the DC bureau chief at The Intercept<\/em>, asked whether Israel knew that the area of the strike was a safe house for the journalist\u2019s family.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe number of investigations needed continues to stack up,\u201d he said. He said that the fact that the incident comes after US State Secretary Antony Blinken\u2019s \u201ccomplaint\u201d about Al Jazeera\u2019s<\/em> coverage was \u201cdeeply disturbing\u201d.<\/p>\n

Rania Zabaneh, a producer at Al Jazeera English<\/em>, said, \u201cThere is no safe place in Gaza\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cHad this happened to an Israeli journalist, the \u2018civilised\u2019 world would now be shedding tears condemning the \u2018barbaric\u2019 Palestinians,\u201d said Qatari state minister Lolwah Alkhater.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s beyond words,\u201d said Zeba Warsi, a journalist with PBS NewsHour<\/em>. She also shared the video of another journalist based in Gaza breaking down after learning that his family had been killed.<\/p>\n

American author Max Blumenthal said the \u201ctyrannical ethnosupremacist regime of Israel has killed the family of Al Jazeera\u2019s<\/em> Wael Dahdouh while he was on air covering its missile strikes\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe targeted murder comes a day after Tony Blinken demanded Qatar suppress Al Jazeera\u2019s<\/em> coverage of Gaza,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Presenter at AJ+<\/em> Dena Takruri said, \u201cThere is no safe place in Gaza. I\u2019m so sorry Wael, our hearts are shattered.\u201d<\/p>\n

Dima Khatib, managing director of AJ+ channels, shared a video of a news anchor on Al Jazeera<\/em> being moved to tears while announcing the news of the death of Dahdouh\u2019s family.<\/p>\n

Dr Omar Suleiman, founder and president of the Yaqeen Institute for Islamic Research in Texas, said, \u201cI\u2019m so sorry Wael. The world failed you. Israel doesn\u2019t just murder journalists. Apparently even their wives and children are targets.\u201d<\/p>\n\n
