The RSF press release added that Kenyan authorities attributed the shooting to \u201cmistaken identity,\u201d claiming a roadblock targeted a stolen vehicle.<\/p>\n
It said the claim \u201clacked credibility\u201d as the stolen van bore no resemblance to Mr Sharif\u2019s Land Cruiser, which was moving in the opposite direction.<\/p>\n
The Independent Police Oversight Authority stated that officers\u2019 firing was in response to shots from Mr Sharif\u2019s car, but no weapon evidence was found, the RSF statement added. The probe has stalled, with the officers still free which has raised concerns.<\/p>\n
The report briefly examined Pakistani security services\u2019 potential involvement in the case, despite their role in Mr Sharif\u2019s flight.<\/p>\n
Mr Sharif was killed near Nairobi on October 24, 2022.<\/p>\n
