{"id":17405,"date":"2023-10-24T08:26:56","date_gmt":"2023-10-24T08:26:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/news.pakistaninewspaperlist.com\/japan-launches-antimonopoly-probe-into-googles-search-dominance-the-express-tribune\/"},"modified":"2023-10-24T08:26:56","modified_gmt":"2023-10-24T08:26:56","slug":"japan-launches-antimonopoly-probe-into-googles-search-dominance-the-express-tribune","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pakistaninewspaperlist.com\/news\/japan-launches-antimonopoly-probe-into-googles-search-dominance-the-express-tribune\/","title":{"rendered":"Japan launches antimonopoly probe into Google&#8217;s search dominance | The Express Tribune"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"\">\n<p>Japan&#8217;s competition watchdog said on Monday it has started investigating Google\u00a0for a possible breach of antimonopoly laws in web search services, following similar steps by authorities in Europe and other major economies.<\/p>\n<p>The Japan Fair Trade Commission (JFTC) said it was investigating whether Google violated Japan&#8217;s Antimonopoly Act by returning part of its revenue to Android smartphone makers on the condition they not install rival search engines.<\/p>\n<p>It is also looking into Google&#8217;s practice of making Android phone makers install its &#8220;Google Search&#8221; and &#8220;Google Chrome&#8221; browser applications with the &#8220;Google Play&#8221; app.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There is suspicion that through these steps it is excluding competitors&#8217; business activity and restricting its business partners&#8217; business activity in the search services market,&#8221; a JFTC official told a press conference.<\/p>\n<p>The official said the issue was not that Google&#8217;s service was widely used, it was about fair competition.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We&#8217;ve launched this probe wondering if the situation under which other search engine providers&#8217; services have a hard time being recognised as a user&#8217;s choice, no matter how much improvement has been made, is artificially created.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The decision follows similar investigations by antitrust regulators in the European Union, the United States and others.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><script async defer crossorigin=\"anonymous\" src=\"https:\/\/connect.facebook.net\/en_US\/sdk.js#xfbml=1&#038;version=v5.0&#038;appId=419051588770002&#038;autoLogAppEvents=1\"><\/script><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Japan&#8217;s competition watchdog said on Monday it has started investigating Google\u00a0for a possible breach of antimonopoly laws in web search services, following similar steps by authorities in Europe and other major economies.
