KARACHI: Pakistan International Airlines\u2019 (PIA) flight operations were \u2018completely suspended\u2019, as 77 flights were cancelled due to a halt in the supply of fuel by Pakistan State Oil (PSO), ARY News reported on Sunday.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The national carrier\u2019s financial crises have intensified as Pakistan State Oil (PSO), according to a PIA spokesperson, has stopped the supply of fuel despite securing the payments.<\/p>\n

A PIA spokesperson confirmed to ARY News that flight operations were \u2018completely suspended\u2019 due to suspension of the fuel supply to the airline as 77 flights were cancelled.<\/p>\n

The spokesperson noted that 52 international and 29 domestic flights were scheduled on Sunday, of which only 4 flights departed.<\/p>\n

It added that the PIA administration was in constant touch with the Pakistan State Oil (PSO) as payments could not be made due to bank closure on Sunday.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe national carrier has paid over Rs220 million to the PSO for the weekend,\u201d the spokesperson said, noting that the scheduled evening flights will operate as soon as today\u2019s credit line is available while alternative connections are being provided to passengers on the affected flights.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Pakistan State Oil (PSO) \u2013 in a statement \u2013 rebuffed claims of fuel supply suspension to national carrier and said that it had provided fuel to almost 64 flights since Friday night.<\/p>\n

\u201cOn Friday evening, PIA paid Rs220 million for fuel for Saturday and Sunday,\u201d the corporation said, adding that a list of 39 flights for fuel supply was also provided by the airline.<\/p>\n

According to the corporation, fuel was being provided as per priority flights list provided by PIA. \u201cPIA\u2019s payout limit for Saturday and Sunday is still pending\u201d, it said, noting that the carrier was not providing flight schedules for the remaining amount.<\/p>\n

\u201cFuel worth Rs60 million is still available as the national carrier can still acquire it,\u201d the corporation clarified.<\/p>\n

Due to cancellation and delay of PIA flights, hundreds of passengers have been facing inconvenience for past several days. They were not only the travelers, but flight crew was also facing inconvenience due to delay in flights departures.<\/p>\n

It is pertinent to mention here that Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar had already directed authorities concerned to expedite the privatization process of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA).<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
