{"id":16451,"date":"2023-10-21T12:01:06","date_gmt":"2023-10-21T12:01:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/news.pakistaninewspaperlist.com\/india-launches-key-test-for-manned-orbital-mission\/"},"modified":"2023-10-21T12:01:06","modified_gmt":"2023-10-21T12:01:06","slug":"india-launches-key-test-for-manned-orbital-mission","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pakistaninewspaperlist.com\/news\/india-launches-key-test-for-manned-orbital-mission\/","title":{"rendered":"India launches key test for manned orbital mission"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\n<p>India on Saturday successfully launched the first unmanned trial run of its upcoming crewed orbital mission, in the latest milestone for its spacefaring ambitions.<\/p>\n<p>The Gaganyaan ( \u201cSkycraft \u201c) mission is slated to send three astronauts into Earth\u2019s orbit in 2025, an important yardstick of the Indian Space Research Organisation\u2019s (ISRO) technical capabilities.<\/p>\n<p>Saturday\u2019s rocket tested the emergency escape system of its crew module, which separated from the thruster and made a soft sea landing about 10 minutes after the launch.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am very happy to announce the successful accomplishment of the mission,\u201d ISRO chief S. Somanath said afterwards.<\/p>\n<p>The lift-off was postponed for two hours after bad weather and a glitch in the engine.<\/p>\n<p>ISRO will conduct a series of 20 major tests, including carrying a robot to outer space, before the final manned mission takes place in 2025.<\/p>\n<p>Gaganyaan is the first mission of its kind for India and comes with an estimated price tag of $1.08 billion, according to ISRO.<\/p>\n<p>India plans to send astronauts beyond the reaches of Earth\u2019s atmosphere for three days before they are brought safely back with a soft landing in Indian territorial waters.<\/p>\n<p>Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced plans to send a man to the Moon by 2040 following a year of triumphs for India\u2019s space programme.<\/p>\n<p>India became in August just the fourth nation to land an unmanned craft on the Moon after Russia, the United States and China.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"media  sm:w-1\/2  w-full  media--right  media--embed  media--uneven\">\n<p>    <iframe class=\"nk-iframe\" onload=\"setInterval(()=&gt;{try{this.style.height=this.contentWindow.document.body.scrollHeight+'px';}catch{}}, 100)\" width=\"100%\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" style=\"height:400px;position:relative\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/card\/1771717\" sandbox=\"allow-same-origin allow-scripts allow-popups allow-modals allow-forms\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>The following month, India launched a probe to observe the outermost layers of the Sun from solar orbit.<\/p>\n<p>India\u2019s space programme has grown considerably in size and momentum since it first sent a probe to orbit the Moon in 2008, and it has steadily matched the achievements of established spacefaring powers at a fraction of their cost.<\/p>\n<p>India also plans a joint mission with Japan to send another probe to the Moon by 2025 and an orbital mission to Venus within the next two years.<\/p>\n<p>Experts say India can keep costs low by copying and adapting existing technology, and thanks to an abundance of highly skilled engineers who earn a fraction of their foreign counterparts\u2019 wages.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>India on Saturday successfully launched the first unmanned trial run of its upcoming crewed orbital mission, in the latest milestone for its spacefaring ambitions.
