{"id":15445,"date":"2023-10-18T14:29:06","date_gmt":"2023-10-18T14:29:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/news.pakistaninewspaperlist.com\/saud-shakeel-laments-absence-of-pakistan-fans-during-world-cup\/"},"modified":"2023-10-18T14:29:06","modified_gmt":"2023-10-18T14:29:06","slug":"saud-shakeel-laments-absence-of-pakistan-fans-during-world-cup","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pakistaninewspaperlist.com\/news\/saud-shakeel-laments-absence-of-pakistan-fans-during-world-cup\/","title":{"rendered":"Saud Shakeel laments absence of Pakistan fans during World Cup"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\n<p>Pakistan paid a heavy price for being \u201cunder extra pressure\u201d in their World Cup defeat by arch-rivals India, said batsman Saud Shakeel, who on  Wednesday lamented the absence of the team\u2019s passionate supporters from the tournament.<\/p>\n<p>The national team was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1781048\/dominant-india-give-pakistan-a-shellacking-race-to-measly-target-with-19-overs-to-spare\">thrashed<\/a> by seven wickets on Saturday at Ahmedabad\u2019s 132,000-capacity stadium where there was only a handful of Pakistani supporters.<\/p>\n<p>The Babar Azam-led squad slumped from a solid 155-2 in the 30th over to be dismissed for a paltry 191.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think we were under extra pressure so we tried to get out of that and wanted to play shots,\u201d Shakeel told <em>AFP<\/em> on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>The smattering of Pakistani fans at the game were expatriates from the United Kingdom and the United States. Supporters from across the border are effectively banned after a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1777488\">failure to gain visas<\/a>.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"media  sm:w-1\/2  w-full  media--right  media--embed  media--uneven\">\n<p>    <iframe class=\"nk-iframe\" onload=\"setInterval(()=&gt;{try{this.style.height=this.contentWindow.document.body.scrollHeight+'px';}catch{}}, 100)\" width=\"100%\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" style=\"height:400px;position:relative\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/card\/1781624\" sandbox=\"allow-same-origin allow-scripts allow-popups allow-modals allow-forms\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has lodged an official complaint with the world governing body over the visa delays which have also kept many members of the country\u2019s media at home.<\/p>\n<p>The PCB also complained over what they described as the \u201cinappropriate behaviour\u201d of Indian fans towards the Pakistan squad at the Ahmedabad game.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen you have your crowd then you get the support. We did not get that and it was not in our hands,\u201d added Shakeel.<\/p>\n<p>Despite an eighth loss in eight World Cup meetings with their arch-rivals, Pakistan are still well-placed in the tournament after wins over the Netherlands and Sri Lanka.<\/p>\n<p>Middle-order batsman Shakeel scored 68 against the Netherlands before making 31 in the game with Sri Lanka. He was out for just six against India.<\/p>\n<p>Next up for Pakistan is another high-profile duel, this time with five-time champions Australia in Bengaluru on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe mistakes we committed in the last game, we must overcome them. That match is gone. If we win against Australia then our position will get better,\u201d added Shakeel.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAustralia are always good in the World Cup. They are a very good side. We know our strong areas and we must play good cricket.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe had a good start to the tournament with two wins.
