Kakar leaves for China to attend 3rd Belt and Road forum"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\n<p>Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar on Monday left for China to attend the \u201cThird Belt and Road Forum (BRF) for International Cooperation\u201d, being held in Beijing from October 17 to 18.<\/p>\n<p>The forum in Beijing marks the 10th anniversary of President Xi\u2019s ambitious global infrastructure and energy initiative, billed as recreating the ancient Silk Road to boost global trade.<\/p>\n<p>In a post on X (formerly Twitter), PM Kakar said: \u201cStarting off to Beijing to participate in the 3rd Belt and Road Forum, on the official invitation of President Xi Jinping.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLooking forward to strengthening ties, engaging in dialogues, forging new partnerships, and promoting regional connectivity for a brighter future,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>The PM\u2019s Office (PMO) shared a video of him departing from Islamabad for Beijing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRepresenting Pakistan in the Belt and Road Forum, the Prime Minister will reiterate the development achievements of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) in the last ten years as well as future goals and Pakistan\u2019s full cooperation on this key project,\u201d the PMO said.<\/p>\n<p>It added that other than participating in the opening ceremony of the BRF, the premier will also address a \u201chigh-level forum on the topic of \u2018Connectivity in an Open Global Economy\u2019 on October 18\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier, it was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1781114\/pakistan-china-likely-to-ink-more-highway-deals\">reported<\/a> that China and Pakistan will ink significant agreements under the CPEC regarding motorways and highways during the premier\u2019s four-day visit.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"media  w-full  w-full  media--stretch  media--embed  media--uneven\">\n<p>    <iframe class=\"nk-iframe\" onload=\"setInterval(()=&gt;{try{this.style.height=this.contentWindow.document.body.scrollHeight+'px';}catch{}}, 100)\" width=\"100%\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" style=\"height:400px;position:relative\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/card\/1780637\" sandbox=\"allow-same-origin allow-scripts allow-popups allow-modals allow-forms\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Senior Chinese officials, business leaders and investors as well as leaders from 130 countries, ranging from the Russian president to representatives of the Taliban administration, are expected to attend the Forum, according to <em>Reuters<\/em> and <em>AFP<\/em> reports.<\/p>\n<p>Caretaker Interior Minister Sarfraz Ahmed Bugti is also accompanying the prime minister on his visit, he said in a post on X.<\/p>\n<h2><a id=\"meetings-and-mous\" href=\"#meetings-and-mous\" class=\"heading-permalink\" aria-hidden=\"true\" title=\"Permalink\"\/>Meetings and MoUs<\/h2>\n<p>During his visit, PM Kakar will have a bilateral meeting with President Xi Jinping as well as the top Chinese leadership and leaders of other countries participating in the forum, the PMO stated.<\/p>\n<p>It went on to add that the prime minister will also meet with businessmen and investors in China to promote foreign investment in Pakistan.<\/p>\n<p>The premier will also visit \u00dcr\u00fcmqi \u201cin order to promote relations between the people of Xinjiang and Pakistan as well as business and investment\u201d, where he will meet local dignitaries and businessmen.<\/p>\n<p>State-run <em>Radio Pakistan<\/em> <a rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"link--external\" href=\"https:\/\/radio.gov.pk\/15-10-2023\/pm-arrives-in-beijing-on-monday-to-attend-3rd-bri-forum\">quoted<\/a> Pakistan\u2019s Ambassador to China Moinul Haque as saying that \u201ca number of agreements and memorandums of understanding (MoUs) will be signed during the visit\u201d, adding that 18 different MoUs will be signed.<\/p>\n<p>He highlighted that the BRF was being organised to mark 10-year celebrations of the Belt and Road Initiative and its flagship project, the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).<\/p>\n<p>Haque stated that the country wants to convert the Karakoram Highway (KKH), which is an important part of CPEC, into an all-weather road to expand trade, tourism and cultural connectivity.<\/p>\n<p>PM Kakar will also address Xinjiang University and interact with the business community of the province, the ambassador said.<\/p>\n<p>For Pakistan, one of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1781114\/pakistan-china-likely-to-ink-more-highway-deals#:~:text=and%20Road%20Forum-,Highway,-Research%20%26%20Training%20Centre\">significant MoUs<\/a> to be signed is related to the establishment of a modern Highway Research &amp; Training Centre (HRTC) with Chinese assistance.<\/p>\n<p>The prime minister will also sign an MoU to upgrade the KKH from Raikot to Thakot, Raikot to Khunjerab (335km), KKH phase-2 on the E-35 section from Havelian to Thakot covering 120km and introduction of a motorway section connecting Havelian to Mansehra.<\/p>\n<p>The PM will also hold a discussion on the construction of a motorway from Dera Ismail Khan to Zhob, while Gwadar port will remain the centre of discussion during the meetings in
