National Assembly Speaker Raja Pervez Ashraf has stated that there may be an \u201cunderstanding\u201d in place for the return of PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif.<\/p>\n

The statement comes a day after interim Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar dismissed<\/a> the impression that Nawaz\u2019s decision to return to Pakistan was a part of any deal with the caretaker government.<\/p>\n

In an interview with World Echo News<\/em>, PM Kakar had said: \u201cThe caretaker government has no soft corner for PML-N or any other political party \u2026 how can a caretaker government strike such a deal?\u201d<\/p>\n

He pointed out that Nawaz left the country as per the court\u2019s decision \u201cunder the nose of Imran Khan\u2019s government, and not the caretaker setup\u201d.<\/p>\n

However, if Nawaz returns and takes part in politics, he will have to face some legal obstacles, the premier said. \u201cThe answers to these legal questions lie in legal remedies.\u201d<\/p>\n

Nawaz, who has been in self-imposed exile since 2019, left for London<\/a> in the middle of his seven-year jail term on medical grounds. In the four years that transpired, Nawaz was declared a proclaimed offender in the Al Azizia and Avenfield graft cases for his continuous absence from proceedings.<\/p>\n

Last month, PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif had confirmed<\/a> that his elder brother was returning to the country on October 21. Subsequently, the PML-N had declared<\/a> that Nawaz was ready to face \u201call kinds of circumstances\u201d upon his return from London.<\/p>\n

Last week, Nawaz\u2019s legal team submitted<\/a> his medical reports to the Lahore High Court, which said the PML-N supremo had \u201csome residual anginal symptoms\u201d. Separately, Shehbaz said the party\u2019s legal team had cleared Nawaz\u2019s arrival.<\/p>\n

In an informal conversation with Dawn.com<\/em>, the NA speaker said, \u201cObviously, there must be an understanding which is why he\u2019s coming back.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ashraf also wondered why Nawaz did not return to the country earlier. \u201cNow his health should also stay good,\u201d he remarked.<\/p>\n

Asked when elections were happening, Ashraf said, \u201cYou tell me, are elections happening?\u201d<\/p>\n

The NA speaker said that the fact that the PPP was talking about a level-playing field held some merit.<\/p>\n
