{"id":1379,"date":"2023-09-07T12:25:31","date_gmt":"2023-09-07T12:25:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/news.pakistaninewspaperlist.com\/pakistans-pace-attack-reminds-shoaib-akhtar-of-old-days\/"},"modified":"2023-09-07T12:25:31","modified_gmt":"2023-09-07T12:25:31","slug":"pakistans-pace-attack-reminds-shoaib-akhtar-of-old-days","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pakistaninewspaperlist.com\/news\/pakistans-pace-attack-reminds-shoaib-akhtar-of-old-days\/","title":{"rendered":"Pakistan\u2019s pace attack reminds Shoaib Akhtar of \u2018old days\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\n<p>Former Pakistan speedster Shoaib Akhtar on Thursday said the team\u2019s current pace attack reminds him of the era of the great pair of Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis.<\/p>\n<p>Pakistan boast one of the world\u2019s best fast-bowling attacks in Shaheen Shah Afridi, Naseem Shah and Haris Rauf.<\/p>\n<p>The trio has taken 23 wickets between them in the first three matches of the ongoing Asia Cup co-hosted by Pakistan and Sri Lanka, a precursor to next month\u2019s one-day international World Cup in India.<\/p>\n<p>Left-arm pacer Shaheen rattled the Indian top order last week in a group match that was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1773623\">abandoned due to rain<\/a> after just one innings and remains a threat ahead of a key Super Four clash between the arch-rivals on Sunday.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"media  w-full  w-full  media--stretch  media--embed  media--uneven\">\n<p>    <iframe class=\"nk-iframe\" onload=\"setInterval(()=&gt;{try{this.style.height=this.contentWindow.document.body.scrollHeight+'px';}catch{}}, 100)\" width=\"100%\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" style=\"height:400px;position:relative\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/card\/1774546\" sandbox=\"allow-same-origin allow-scripts allow-popups allow-modals allow-forms\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>\u201cThese youngsters are very, very talented and I am happy that Pakistan is able to produce such fast bowlers over and over again,\u201d Akhtar said in an online chat organised by <em>Star Sports<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis pace battery reminds me of the old days\u2026 reminds me of that era of two Ws (Waqar and Wasim). They are very confident and have the mindset of taking wickets.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Wasim and Waqar took over 900 ODI wickets between them, striking fear into the hearts of opposing batsmen with their lightning-fast reverse swing deliveries.<\/p>\n<p>Shaheen leads the charge with new-ball partner Naseem, but it is first-change Rauf who tops the Asia Cup bowling chart with nine wickets.<\/p>\n<p>Pakistan <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1774372\">thrashed Bangladesh<\/a> in the opening match of the Super Fours in Lahore on Wednesday with Rauf returning 4-19 from his six overs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI would say Shaheen Shah Afridi is on top of his career right now. Haris Rauf has a wicket-taking mindset like Shaheen,\u201d said Akhtar, who later joined Pakistan\u2019s pace attack alongside Wasim and Waqar.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI would just advise Naseem to bowl more wicket-taking deliveries than be a stock bowler.
