{"id":13413,"date":"2023-10-12T09:03:05","date_gmt":"2023-10-12T09:03:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/news.pakistaninewspaperlist.com\/arrears-case-kmc-seeks-time-from-sc-to-reconcile-matter-with-ke\/"},"modified":"2023-10-12T09:03:05","modified_gmt":"2023-10-12T09:03:05","slug":"arrears-case-kmc-seeks-time-from-sc-to-reconcile-matter-with-ke","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pakistaninewspaperlist.com\/news\/arrears-case-kmc-seeks-time-from-sc-to-reconcile-matter-with-ke\/","title":{"rendered":"Arrears Case: KMC seeks time from SC to reconcile matter with KE"},"content":{"rendered":"<div data-td-block-uid=\"tdi_98\">\n<div class=\"tdb-block-inner td-fix-index\">\n<p><strong>ISLAMABAD: Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) on Thursday sought more time from Supreme Court to settle the issue of billions of rupees arrears with the K-electric, ARY News reported.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A three-member bench of the apex court headed by Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa heard the case.<\/p>\n<p>The KMC\u2019s lawyer told the court that the Mayor Karachi and the CEO of the K-electric have met recently and talks going on over the issue of arrears against each other.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHopefully, a viable solution of the matter will come to surface,\u201d KMC lawyer said.<\/p>\n<p>The Supreme Court adjourned further hearing of the case for four weeks.<\/p>\n<p>The KMC claims 5.7 billion rupees outstanding against the KE, while the power utility claiming 1.2 bln rupees bill payable by the KMC.<\/p>\n<p>The court in an earlier hearing directed the KMC and K-electric to reconcile their billions of rupees arrears by mediation.<\/p>\n<p>The bench also directed the sides to suggest the name of mediator for dispute resolution.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIsn\u2019t it better for both entities to reconcile the matter,\u201d the CJP suggested. \u201cThe KMC could not get free power supply. What is problem in payment if the KE not issuing inflated electricity bills,\u201d the chief justice questioned.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe descent of Karachi in darkness would also have political implication,\u201d Justice Isa remarked. \u201cMayor Karachi himself is a lawyer.
