Warner Bros. faced an unexpected storm of controversy just as it unveiled the trailer for Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom<\/em>, a blockbuster with a hefty $215 million budget. The revelation came when contentious documents from the Johnny Depp-Amber Heard defamation trial surfaced on Reddit, adding fuel to the fire.<\/p>\n

According to Variety, Depp fans paid the court fees for the release of documents from Heard\u2019s therapist, Dr. Dawn Hughes. The raw notes, scribbled on a legal pad, were part of last year\u2019s high-profile trial in which Depp largely prevailed.<\/p>\n

The unearthed documents shed light on allegations of a hostile atmosphere on the Aquaman<\/em> set, where Jason Momoa, allegedly intoxicated, dressed like Depp and purportedly advocated for Heard’s removal from her role as Mera. A representative for Momoa denied the claims, asserting that Momoa maintained professionalism throughout the filming process.<\/p>\n

A rep for Momoa declined comment, but a DC spokesperson pushed back on Heard\u2019s characterization, saying, \u201cJason Momoa conducted himself in a professional manner at all times on the set of Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom<\/em>.\u201d Others echoed that sentiment. \u201cJason works his ass off, likes to have a beer once in a while like everyone, but doesn\u2019t show up drunk to set,\u201d Variety<\/em> quoted an insider, who was on the London set in 2021, as saying.<\/p>\n

They added that the two stars got along and were seen joking together. \u201cAnd he isn\u2019t dressing like Johnny Depp. He has always dressed in that bohemian style.\u201d<\/p>\n

Heard’s therapist’s notes, dated December 27, 2021, further portrayed her feeling unsupported by the film’s director, James Wan, due to her ongoing legal battle with Johnny Depp. The documents also suggested that she was nearly fired after the first Aquaman<\/em> due to perceived lack of chemistry with Momoa. However, Warner Bros. ultimately retained her for the sequel following threats from Elon Musk’s legal team.<\/p>\n

Heard declined to comment but a source close to her confirmed to Variety<\/em> that her notes refer to the Aquaman 2<\/em> set. Another source close to the actor said her lawyers fought the release of the therapy notes, which had been subpoenaed by Depp\u2019s attorneys during discovery.<\/p>\n

Amidst the drama, the Aquaman <\/em>sequel faced its share of challenges, including reshoots and edits that tested the film’s production team. Despite the hurdles, early tracking indicates strong interest and a promising opening for Aquaman 2,<\/em> hinting that the film could still make waves at the box office.<\/p>\n
