In an act of stern aggression, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Tuesday said that “though Israel did not start this war” but “will finish it,” addressing the unexpected attack by Hamas, in which a barrage of 7,000 missiles and 3,500 rockets were unleashed, reported AFP<\/em>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

It must be noted, however, that while the entire scenario cannot be explained in a few words, one side has a lot of power and influence, while all the other side has is resistance.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Amongst all this, filmmaker Jemima Goldsmith shared her take on the ongoing situation. “I stand with the innocent human beings on both sides of this conflict. Condemn both, said Jemima twice, sharing pictures of the ongoing attacks. In another post, she shared a small text-based post that read, “I stand with International Law and Human Rights. There is no humanity in political tribalism.”\u00a0<\/p>\n

As a consequence, many Pakistanis who have stood by Palestine became quite upset. “Might as well have said nothing at all because that’s what this is,” said one X user. “Someone who has a lot to say about Pakistan cannot take a stand for Palestine,” said another. One user of the microblogging site simply said, “Disappointed.” However, there were some to whom her posts made sense. “We are proud of you,” said one X user. Another reiterated the same, simply stating, “Proud,” with clapping emojis alongside.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Even so, many remained angry, and some were heartbroken. “Hope this finally breaks the mind-numbing obsession our country has with Jemima ‘bhabhi<\/em>,'” one said. One X user echoed the sentiment, sharing, “Hopefully the obsession with her ends here.” Another wrote, Humanity demands saner voices siding with the oppressed in no uncertain terms. The mealy-mouthed response to the ongoing genocide of Palestinians is very unfortunate. Unfortunately, this tendency pervades global political structures and individual-levels.”<\/p>\n

Yet another user of the site formerly known as Twitter questioned, “Who’s going to tell her colonization violates human rights and international law?” Another demanded, “Sorry, Jemima, you can\u2019t get away with this. Call a spade a spade.” Yet another asked, “You either stand with the oppressor or the oppressed. Grey statements like these do more harm than good. So what is it, Jemima?” One X user pointed out, “What the hell is this non-statement? The ‘all lives matter’ jumped out.”\u00a0<\/p>\n

It must be noted that the international community has not remained silent during these turbulent times. Celebrities and social media influencers across borders have taken to X and Instagram to express their views and show solidarity with the Palestinians. As the matter continues to unfold, it is yet to be seen if and when alignments will shift.<\/p>\n
