World leaders urged restraint after Saturday\u2019s deadly Hamas attack<\/a> targeting Israel and the retaliation that followed.<\/p>\n The early morning Hamas offensive by air, land and sea was met by Israeli air strikes on the blockaded coastal enclave, in the bloodiest escalation since May 2021.<\/p>\n Here is a snapshot of global reactions.<\/p>\n Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar has expressed his profound concern over the escalating violence in the Middle East, emphasising the pressing need to address the \u201cPalestine Question\u201d.<\/p>\n \u201cWe urge restraint and protection of civilians. Enduring peace in the Middle East lies in a two state solution with a viable, contiguous, sovereign State of Palestine, founded on pre-1967 borders, with Al Quds Al-Sharif at its heart,\u201d he said in a post on X.<\/p>\n Meanwhile, the Foreign Office said Pakistan was \u201cclosely monitoring the unfolding situation in the Middle East and the eruption of hostilities between Israel and Palestinians\u201d.<\/p>\n \u201cWe call on the international community to come together for cessation of hostilities, protection of civilians and for a lasting peace in the Middle East,\u201d the statement added<\/p>\n Arab League chief Ahmed Aboul Gheit called for \u201can immediate halt to military operations in Gaza\u201d and \u201cthe cycle of armed confrontation between the two sides\u201d.<\/p>\n He said: \u201cIsrael\u2019s continued implementation of violent and extremist policies is a time bomb depriving the region of any serious opportunity for stability in the foreseeable future.\u201d<\/p>\n The Saudi foreign ministry called for an \u201cimmediate cessation of violence\u201d.<\/p>\n \u201cThe UAE calls for the exercise of maximum restraint and an immediate ceasefire to avoid serious repercussions,\u201d the official news agency quoted the foreign ministry as saying.<\/p>\n Kuwait expressed its \u201cgrave concern\u201d over developments between Israel and the Palestinians, blaming Israel for what it called its \u201cblatant attacks\u201d.<\/p>\n An adviser to Iran\u2019s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei on Saturday congratulated Palestinian fighters, the semi-official ISNA<\/em> news site reported. \u201cWe will stand by the Palestinian fighters until the liberation of Palestine and Jerusalem,\u201d it quoted Yahya Rahim Safavi as saying.<\/p>\n Iran\u2019s state television showed parliament members rising from their seats to chant \u201cDeath to Israel\u201d.<\/p>\n Iran\u2019s foreign ministry spokesperson Nasser Kanaani spokesperson was quoted by ISNA<\/em> as saying: \u201cIn this operation, the element of surprise and other combined methods were used, which show the Palestinian people\u2019s confidence in the face of the occupiers.\u201d<\/p>\n Huthi rebels who control the capital Sanaa said they supported \u201cthe heroic jihadist operation\u201d.<\/p>\n In a statement published on the website of SABA<\/em> news agency, the group said the attack \u201crevealed the weakness, fragility and impotence\u201d of Israel. Egyptian Foreign Ministry Egypt warned of \u201cgrave consequences\u201d and called for \u201cexercising maximum restraint and avoiding exposing civilians to further danger\u201d.<\/p>\n \u201cWe call for restraint from all parties,\u201d Turkish President Recept Tayyip Erdogan said.<\/p>\n Qatar foreign ministry said Israel alone was responsible for the ongoing escalation of violence with the Palestinian people, and called for both sides to show restraint.<\/p>\n \u201cThe Kingdom of Morocco expresses its deep concern at the deterioration of the situation and the outbreak of military action in the Gaza Strip, and condemns attacks against civilians wherever they may be,\u201d a foreign ministry statement said.<\/p>\n \u201cThere is never any justification for terrorism. We stand in solidarity with the government and people of Israel, and extend our condolences for the Israeli lives lost in these attacks,\u201d US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said in a statement released by the State Department.<\/p>\n US Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin said: \u201cOver the coming days the Department of Defense will work to ensure that Israel has what it needs to defend itself and protect civilians from indiscriminate violence and terrorism.\u201d<\/p>\n Middle East peace envoy Tor Wennesland said: \u201cThis is a dangerous precipice, and I appeal to all to pull back from the brink.\u201d<\/p>\n UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Tuerk said: \u201cThis attack is having a horrific impact on Israeli civilians \u2026 Civilians must never be the target of attack.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cTerrifying news reaches us today from #Israel<\/a>. These acts of violence are completely unacceptable. We stand with Israel and fully support its right to defend itself. Our thoughts are with everyone affected by this. Civilian life must be protected,\u201d Canadian Prime Minister Justic Trudeau said on X.<\/p>\n \u201cThe UK unequivocally condemns the horrific attacks by Hamas on Israeli civilians.
