Claremont, California, Oct. 10, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Pomona College\u00a0has\u00a0publicly\u00a0launched\u00a0a $530 million\u00a0comprehensive\u00a0campaign to\u00a0expand access to\u00a0a\u00a0Pomona\u00a0education\u00a0for exceptional\u00a0students,\u00a0with a ceremony that included a groundbreaking for its new Center for Global Engagement\u00a0(CGE).\u00a0The\u00a0Originals\u00a0Campaign<\/a>, which has already raised 47% of its goal\u00a0and\u00a0will continue\u00a0over the next five years,\u00a0is the most ambitious fundraising effort in the College\u2019s history.\u00a0The campaign\u00a0will strengthen and expand financial aid\u2014including for students from middle-income families\u2014and\u00a0further\u00a0invest in\u00a0faculty\u00a0and\u00a0emerging areas of scholarship;\u00a0strengthen health\u00a0and\u00a0wellness programs;\u00a0and deepen connections across generations of\u00a0Pomona College\u00a0Sagehens.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Originals Campaign is about ensuring that Pomona remains a place where remarkable students, whatever their discipline, can thrive regardless of financial circumstances, where faculty continue to redefine what a liberal arts education can be and where fresh ideas become meaningful change,\u201d Pomona College President G. Gabrielle Starr says. \u201cWith the community\u2019s partnership, we will strengthen everything that makes Pomona extraordinary while creating new opportunities for generations to come.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

The campaign builds on\u00a0Pomona\u2019s\u00a0longstanding commitment to college access: a record 29% of the year\u2019s first-year class are first generation students, while 63% receive financial aid.\u00a0A signature priority is the new middle-income initiative, designed to make a Pomona education more accessible and affordable for families who often earn too much to qualify for significant financial aid but still face substantial barriers to the cost of attendance. The campaign also expands support for programs such as the\u00a0Technology Access Program (TAP)<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Access to Course Essentials (ACE)<\/a>, which provide students with laptops, course materials and other academic necessities, helping ensure that every student has the resources needed to thrive from the moment they arrive on campus.<\/p>\n

\u201cEvery generation of the Pomona community has inherited something extraordinary from the one before it\u2014and then asked what it could make possible for those who would follow,\u201d Vice President for Advancement Maria Watson says. \u201cWe are grateful for the 10,000 donors who have already supported the Originals Campaign, and we invite the entire Sagehen community to\u00a0join\u00a0in, whether through\u00a0philanthropic support\u00a0or through volunteering or participating in events.\u201d<\/p>\n

The campaign also includes a major investment in global education through Pomona\u2019s new\u00a0Center for Global Engagement<\/a>, which broke ground as the campaign entered its public phase. Estimated for completion in Fall 2028, the\u00a0100,000-square-foot\u00a0CGE will build students\u2019 global competency, host programs for in-depth exploration of major issues facing today\u2019s\u00a0world, and\u00a0house the living-and-learning communities for language and cultural understanding that have been a hallmark of Pomona for more than 60 years. The CGE\u2019s academic work has already begun through pilot programs, including student-led programs, faculty-led study abroad\u00a0and away\u00a0opportunities and international collaborations.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Pomona will also accelerate faculty-student research, expand global\u00a0learning\u00a0and invest in emerging areas of scholarship. In addition to the CGE, the campaign will advance\u00a0Global Gateways<\/a>, expand access to transformative experiences through the\u00a0Summer Undergraduate Research Program (SURP)<\/a>\u00a0and the\u00a0Pomona College Internship Program (PCIP)<\/a>, and support faculty research and development.<\/p>\n
