During a seminar held to observe Older People Day, the Caretaker Federal Minister for Human Rights, Khalil George, Wednesday articulated that the profound impacts of climate change have disproportionately affected the elderly population in the nation, leaving them vulnerable to natural disasters without adequate protection.<\/span><\/p>\n

He addressed the HelpAge International Pakistan national seminar in collaboration with the Ministries of Human Rights (MHR) and Climate Change, focusing on the theme “Climate Change and its Impact on Older People.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The International Day of Older People observed annually on October 1, serves as a platform to highlight the challenges faced by older individuals globally while celebrating their invaluable contributions to society.<\/span><\/p>\n

This year’s event aimed to draw attention of climate change and the well-being of older people. George said the country lost many of its senior citizens due to natural calamities as a result of climate change and COVID-19 pandemic which left the society deprived of its mentors and guiding forces.<\/span><\/p>\n

He said love for elders is the proof of our success in the world and raising awareness among the youth to prevent elder abuse is important.<\/p>\n
