Singer reflects on his musical journey, inspiration behind his songs and why he chose to create music on his own terms<\/p>\n

Global music icon Atif Aslam has reflected on his decades-long musical journey, discussing creative blocks, the origins of his breakout hit Aadat<\/em>, his latest album and why he chose to return to independent music after 18 years.<\/p>\n

In a recent interview<\/a>, Atif addressed whether he had ever considered walking away from music, making it clear that quitting had never been an option. \u201cI never thought of quitting. Yes, there will always be a creative block, and that’s rightfully so; it is important for an artist,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The singer explained that creative stagnation is a natural part of an artist’s journey, with periods of uncertainty eventually giving way to renewed inspiration.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou have to go through certain eras where you’re empty, and you’re like, \u2018Okay, what to write?\u2019 And then there’s an era where you’re like, \u2018The glass is full,\u2019 you can just be thankful, sit quiet, be patient and just keep moving,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Reflecting on Aadat<\/em>, which has long been regarded as a quintessential heartbreak anthem, Atif said the song’s original inspiration was quite different from how audiences have come to interpret it.<\/p>\n

\u201cA lot of people think that Aadat<\/em> was just about a heartbreak or something like that. Originally it was just about self-awareness, how you keep yourself, how you mould yourself according to the situation,\u201d he revealed.<\/p>\n

He also spoke about Subha Aye Na<\/em>, a track from his recently released fourth studio album, describing the song as an expression of his personal introspection and faith. \u201cSubha Aye Na<\/em> is all about self-exploration and the faith in Allah,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n

Atif said his music is ultimately a reflection of his own experiences rather than an attempt to draw inspiration from someone else’s life. \u201cIt’s a reflection of my life. I don’t have to think about anyone else; I have a very entertaining and interesting life and a great journey,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The singer also opened up about his decision to work independently on an album after 18 years. He said the move was driven by a desire to step away from commercially motivated projects and return to writing and composing music for himself. \u201cI’ve gone back to zero, where I wanted to be the same guy who’s fearless, who just wants to release music,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

For Atif, returning to his roots also meant giving back to his audience and the people who supported him throughout his career.<\/p>\n

He also recalled one of the most memorable encounters he has had with a fan during a show in India. \u201cThis guy was in the lobby, and he had travelled like a thousand kilometres,\u201d he recalled.<\/p>\n

The fan, who sold glasses on the roadside, had brought the glasses with him as a gift for Atif. He also showed the singer a YouTube video documenting how he celebrates Atif’s birthday every year by inviting friends to his room, making posters and cutting a cake. Atif described the gesture as \u201cthe sweetest thing a fan had done\u201d for him.<\/p>\n

Looking back at his rise from an aspiring musician to an internationally recognised artist, Atif admitted that the scale of his success still leaves him humbled. \u201cI was clueless. I had no idea; to date, I have no idea how this has happened,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He also reflected on the reach of his music beyond Pakistan, noting that his largest listening fan bases are in Bangladesh and India.<\/p>\n

For an artist whose career has crossed borders and musical eras, Atif’s reflections suggest that his relationship with music remains less about chasing success and more about continuing to create, explore and stay connected to the journey.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
